Though I am a Sonamy fan, I do take cues from official sources. Sonic holding his hand up, in my opinion, was his way of saying "Not now, Amy." Which is not to say that Sonic doesn't like hugs (or other forms of affection) from Amy, he just believes there's a time and place for it.

I got a flame once on how I should write about 'normal' couples like sonamy, shadouge, and tailream... Well, I HATE being normal. Normal is boring, normal is dull. Being weird is a lot better! well, it seems to me that in sonic unleashed he quicky ran away when he rescued her when those monsters possesed those people into dancing. and when sonic *hesitated* reached out for her when she left after thinking she got the wrong guy

He was only scared of her because Amys hugs are very tight. Sonic help her because that's what he do, help others in need.
