Thank you for liking it anyway! Here I thought of Kylo using the mask to hide his feelings as his face is so expressive and even after he destroyed it we see him rebuilding it, because he's still unsure of what he's feeling... or simply not yet ready to admit his own feelings.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s able to hide his emotions very well. Even in the light Ben Solo universe EsmeAmelia and I write together, he has occasions where he wears one of a collection of masks he has. Not most of the time, but he does still reserve that option when it’s absolutely critical he keep the element of surprise as much as possible.

And in the canon universe and my post-TFA AU, he needs that to hide his vulnerability from the world. Even more so in my AU, where he has a reason to even endure Snoke’s taunting without giving up his mask. (In my AU he loses control of his powers and it results in an accidental Force bond tight enough that to kill one kills the other. And the other is NOT Force-sensitive, meaning that if anyone found out about this they could kill Kylo Ren with ease. A BIG vulnerability he cannot let out at any cost.)

I very much think in canon, he’s only becoming MORE torn apart. He doesn’t want the face he presents to the galaxy as its ruler to be the one he really has inside.
