Haha, well, I can see the effort!

It's hard to make hair that looks natural and free, instead of stiff and rigid.

Haha, yes. I noticed that artists who do good portraits put a lot of emphasis on detailing the hair and eyes, but a lot less on the clothes. So I'm trying to do the same.

Haha, well it makes sense, considering that in a portrait what you'll be looking at the most is the face itself, so detailing it could build up to something more appealing... However, the devil's in the details, and the trick is to know when to stop detailing so it doesn't look overloaded.

Yes, finding balance is definitely tricky. I also see a lot of people adding weird effects in the background, which totally distracts the viewer from the portrait itself. And yeah, I often look up some references/ examples of what I want to draw. Also, my thanks for the watch

Exactly, though it mostly depends on what you're focusing and trying to do; as you said, if you're doing a portrait then filling the background with details is pretty much pointless and distracting. And we all need references, it's rather hard to try and create something complicated like, say, dynamic poses, without a reference... They are very useful when learning, and even more as one improves.

And no problem, I am sure I can expect even more awesome art from you!
