This species resembles a Japanese Torii gate. They are made to protect the sacred grounds of shrines
Kaida is a yokai/spiritual entity that are very intelligent, long life, and that have magical powers.
they are also known for strength and courage as well

Japan and can go back to the feudal era
Diety
They can serve the shine god and protect him/her
Their job is to keep the shines land purified and that means keeping the god happy too

Shrines are build by people. The very first blessing to the new shrine creates the Kaida.
You can say a Kaida is a blessing gift to the new shrine and god.
