After Rafeal’s defeat, Mai, Atem and Kaiba faced Dartz together. Or, what they thought was Dartz. The cult leader had a surprise for them when he told his story about the Orichalcos stones falling on Atlantis, framing it oddly.
“The people of the city took up the stones and the magic allowed for advancements that had not been seen before or since. Until one day the stones began to use the darkness within the souls of the humans to turn them into monsters. The king was forced to slay his own wife and in despair fell prey to the same power. His weakness allowed the darkness to seep into his soul until I gained a foothold and made his body an extension of my will.”
Everyone gasped in shock.
“So that means you are-”
“Indeed Nameless Pharaoh. I am the god worshiped by Doma. For ten thousand years my essence lay within this body. Even after Dartz’s father and daughter enlisted the aid of the Legendary Dragons to drain my true body of its power, I still had this vessel and used it to gather the souls needed for my revival while eating away at Dartz’s soul.”
“In time Dartz realized he was nothing more than fodder for my machinations but the moment he allowed me access to his soul his fate was sealed, as was the fate of this world!”
“You were stopped before! And you will be stopped again! The only destiny for monsters like you is failure!”
“The young fool who scoffs at destiny claims to know my future? Quite conceited of you, especially with your history of failure. You failed to save your brother from Pegasus and failed to win the God Cards. This time will be no different.”
“You forget that I was alone then! Unlike you I have learned it’s a mistake to think you rely solely on yourself.”
“Bold to assume the aid of a failure who only wields a Legendary Dragon out of pity and a fool who lost the soul of his closest friend are sufficient aid to defy the inevitable.”
The evil god quickly backed up his confidence. He wasn’t a skilled duelist by any stretch of the imagination but his deck had so many overpowered cards in his deck that it didn’t matter, which in addition to what he had in canon included some brutal discard effects. With how things kept getting worse and worse Atem and Kaiba half expected him to use the Egyptian God Cards.
By far his most cruel trick was using his Mirror Knights with the faces of his victims. Kaiba still kept attacking regardless while scoffing at Atem and Mai’s hesitation. Atem was tempted to remind Seto that if Mokuba’s soul was used in a Mirror Knight he wouldn’t act any differently but needed to keep cooperating.
Like in canon Kaiba’s destruction of the Mirror Knights was followed by his defeat against different monsters. Rather than summoning Orichalcos Shunoros, Kyutora’s effect instead lets the user summon monsters whose total levels were equal or lower to the battle damage absorbed by Kyutora, times a thousand, regardless of summoning conditions. This let the Orichalcos God call forth the final Sacred Beast Raviel, Lord of Phantasms, and his remaining two Orichalcos Gigas.
Forcing Kaiba’s remaining monster to attack Raviel, the Leviathan knocked him out of the duel. Adding a continuous spell called Reincarnation Cycle allowed the dark god to trigger Special Summon effects that normally worked through destruction by tributing monsters, and draw a card for each monster revived. This allowed Raviel’s high attack points, already boosted by the Seal of Orichalcos, to climb to ever higher each turn it attacked, while still being protected by two immortal creatures.
The duel only got worse as Raviel’s effect started summoning tokens that thanks to a continuous spell card called Exalted Assault that removed any restrictions on monsters attacking, letting the Orichalcos God throw his tokens at any weak monsters Mai and Atem summoned. Mai managed to at least cause damage with her Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation card and the burn effects from Jounouchi’s Red Eyes monsters but was ultimately beaten as well.
Right after his second opponent fell, the Orichalcos God took the souls of everyone but Atem.
“Now you see the truth. I have taken so many souls that I now have the power to take them at will. The time when there was any modicum of chance I could be stopped has long passed. Humans have made too many mistakes, including you. You putting your own desires before others is proof enough.
“Unable to handle the thought of losing to one of my followers you played the card that cost your partner his soul. Seeing the souls of others in this duel made you hesitate to destroy my Mirror Knights. By the time Kaiba destroyed them it was too late, you already handed me my victory.
“There was never any hope against me. My return is inevitable and you are fighting destiny by opposing it. The more you struggle against destiny the more you will suffer. The only question that remains is how long it takes before you succumb.”
Atem couldn’t deny he made mistakes. Had he truly crossed the threshold where he could no longer win? It would be easier to just give up.
Yet as the Orichalcos God attempted to take the soul of the surrendering pharaoh, he returned to the duel.
“As you said I have been selfish and put my own desires before the needs of others. I lost the person who mattered most to me because I was afraid to fail. I made mistakes in this duel because I was afraid of losing my friends even though they were willing to die if you were stopped. There is no denying it. But my friends still believe that I could win. If I give up now then everything they fought, struggled and sacrificed for will have been for nothing! And to do that would be a greater mistake than any I have made before!”
The Orichalcos God initially didn’t care that Atem continued the duel, thinking it would provide him with more amusement while he watched him struggle. Right until Atem played Legend of Heart to summon the Legendary Dragons in their forms as knights, which had an added effect in a team duel of sending cards from his defeated teammates graveyard to his own graveyard. Summoning them destroyed the Seal of Orichalcos, something the evil god didn’t think possible.
Raviel still possessed greater attack points than the knights, but attacking them merely led to the Sacred Beast’s destruction when Critias used the power of Mirror Force. The trap card failed to permanently destroy the two Orichalcos Gigas. That soon changed when Atem had summoned a Kuriboh to attack a Gigas, allowing Critias to use the effect of the Crush Card Virus in Kaiba’s graveyard to destroy the Gigas and prevent them from being Special Summoned from the graveyard.
The evil god was now defenseless. Atem was confident victory was imminent as the tens of thousands of life points the Orichalcos God had built up were burned to nearly nothing. Right until the god revealed a card called Orichalcos Fusion that allowed him to fuse Raviel with the other two Sacred Beasts into Armityle. He didn’t have copies of those cards in his deck but summoned the other two anyways, something Abridged Atem accused of being cheating, to which the evil god responded;
“What did I tell you about the rules man? I have the Shiibaldahhhbaladoobalabadah! The rules can go fuck themselves!”
Armityle’s base attack was zero but Orichalcos Fusion increased the summoned monster’s attack and defense equal to the combined stats of its Fusion Material. Its own effect allowed it to gain 10,000 attack points every turn and it could not be destroyed by card effects. Atem would have lost without making a desperate play with Relay Soul.
Facing a monster whose attacks could climb to absurd levels, Atem used Hermos’ effect to triple his attack and fuse the knights. With Timias Knight of Destiny able to use their effects and triple his attack again, his attack points were raised far above Armityle and allowed him to crush the evil creature along with the rest of its master’s life points.
“This isn’t over! Like all defeats this one is meaningless to me!”
The body that belonged to Dartz dropped to the floor. The Legendary Knights managed to free the souls of Jounouchi, Yugi, Mai and Seto, but couldn’t save the rest. As grateful as the pharaoh was to be reunited with his partner, the other souls not returning told him that the Orichalcos God wasn’t beaten yet.
In the Abridged timeline, Atem figured he was speaking to the Orichalcos God almost immediately.
Atem: That ridiculous southern accent. This man is a not a servant of the Orichalcos God, the Orichalcos God is speaking through him!
Orichalcos God: That is correct Pharow. I'm sure you would love to hear how I came to consume the soul of the huuman who this body originally bewonged to.
Atem: Um, no. That sounds like one of the creepiest things ever.
Kaiba: Literally nobody wants to listen to a hick like you monologue about his backstory!
Mai: Plus that stupid accent of yours means almost nobody can understand you so can we please get to the part where we kicky your ass.
Orichalcos God: Since none of want to hear in then it's all the more inzentive for me to expwain it!
The Orichalcos God’s insults towards humanity were much more petty, stating that humans couldn’t stop him because they were all dumb. He went as far as mocking his three top ranked underlings, saying that they were blind to him having been responsible for their tragedies that befell them. His opponents were outraged.
“That makes no sense! The sheer number of plot contrivances you would need to go your way are utter BS! How dare you succeed with such stupid plans!”
“You controlled my company without anybody noticing! You monster, how dare you! It’s not enough that you want to replace my dragon mascot with a snake!”
“Are our lives all just a joke to you? You call yourself a god but you are nothing but a childish prankster!”
The Orichalcos God laughed his ass off.
“I told yaw that huwmans are stuupid! You just hwerd the evil Orichalcamalos Gawd who lies to everyone to get them to do his evil plans to destroy the world say he ruined his henchmens’ lifes to get them to follow him! You had nothing to go on but my wurd and you believed me anyways! You huwmans are the dumbest things eva! If you can’t see through such an obvious lie how can you pawsibly defeat me!”
After depleting Kaiba’s lifepoints the Orichalcos God boasted that he was indeed going to replace Kaiba Corp’s dragon mascot with a snake.
“Yugi! And whoever the other person is, you have to defeat him! Don’t let him replace my masc-”

Dartz was made out to be a tragic victim but his sheer villainy and lack of set up for his redemption meant the reveal that he was corrupted by the Orichalcos was too little too late. The plot with the cult leader being possessed by the evil force the cult worships is something GX did better with Saio/Sartorius since him being possessed by the Light of Destruction was built up throughout the season. So I decided to just have the Orichalcos God act as the real villain with Dartz’s body being nothing more than a puppet.
So this means in the Yugioh Abridged timeline, it’s the Orichalcos God who has the ridiculous Southern accent.
It’s not the quintuple digit attack points of Shunoros but the Orichalcos deck is still using a nasty card that triggers revival effects of monsters when they are tributed when combined with Orichalcos Gigas, while also removing its effect of skipping the controller’s draw phase. Even if you could get rid of Raviel with a field nuke (Orichalcos Tritos means the controller's monsters can’t be targeted) you still have Gigas coming back even if it’s tributed. And I didn’t plan it but Raviel’s token summon effect does synergize with Orichalcos Dueterous.
Armityle’s effect doesn’t work the way I’m describing it here in the real card game or GX. In addition to using BS overpowered cards that can only be countered by BS overpowered cards, the Orichalcos God is also a cheater. If anything, being evil means he is obligated to show the heroes what cheating really looks like. I know that art of Armityle is different from the real card but I couldn't resist using an image that good.
Writing the Abridged Orichalcos God was fun. I considered him say his whole motive is that he wants to destroy humanity because he thinks all humans are dumb. Either way I wanted to do the moment where he tells everyone he ruined his henchmen’s lives, then reveals he was lying, just to be a troll. Him saying he was going to replace Kaiba Corp’s dragon mascot with a snake wasn’t something he said just to troll Kaiba, he really was planning that in advance. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
