Description EPIC VIDEO GAME REVIEW!

Majora's Mask is damn near perfect. I've beaten the game twice this week and I had a blast. I was gonna post this yesterday, but I decided to play the game one more time to genuinely get the Fierce Deity Mask without cheat codes. It was worth it...despite some annoying stuff that I'll get to later. Here's some backstory with me and this game: I've known about this game for years thanks to YouTube videos made by Peanut Butter Gamer, NicoBBQ and MatPat, but I never played this game as a kid. I wanted to play it in my high school years, but an old high school friend suggested playing BotW as my first Zelda game. Breath of the Wild is great, but I hate that weapons break and climbing stuff when it rains is annoying. After BOTW, I played other Zelda games like a Link between Worlds which is pretty good in my opinion and Ocarina of Time 3D which I think is better than BOTW in my opinion. I couldn't play MM for years due to technical difficulties, financial issues, and I didn't want to play the 3DS version because it had weird, George Lucus BS changes according to some people. Eventually, I got an emulator that could run old games last month and didn't play MM until I was done with Super Metroid. Now that I've beaten the game twice, I can safely say that Majora's Mask is my new favorite Zelda game. This game was fun, creepy, creative, intuitive, dark, macabre and even emotional at times. This review will be a little more organized compared to my previous review.

THE STORY: This game has a great story. It was intense and thrilling from beginning to end. I was so enthralled that I immediately wanted to help Romani as soon as I got the Goron Mask, but I didn't realize that there's a certain way to unlock Powder Kegs. The writing in this game got me to care about these random NPCs and that's commendable. Hell, I kinda felt bad for Skull Kid at the end. Of course, the best side quest in the game, the Anju and Kafei side quest, is brilliant. I won't spoil anything even though this game is 23 years old, but I want to implore you guys to play this game to experience everything for yourselves. I'm surprised that they managed to make a Zelda game without the traditional story beats like Ganon, the Triforce, the Master Sword and even Zelda who's in a brief flashback. I thought it was bold and creative that they didn't make it a traditional Zelda game which makes it stand out from the rest. Probably the thing that makes me gravitate towards this game is that it's dark. Characters die on screen, a character loses their child, the Moon is gonna crash into Termina and don't even get me started on the Elegy Link statue. Not gonna lie, after saving Pamela's father from being turned into a Gibdo I got chocked up and teary eyed. If a game can do that to you, then it's a work of art.

THE GAMEPLAY: I've played Ocarina of Time before, so I know what to expect from this game. How Link controls is the same as OoT which is a plus. The masks in this game are really fun to use and even enhance the gameplay. My favorite mask in the entire game is of course the Fierce Deity mask which is overpowered and makes Link look badass. A second favorite mask of mine is the Bunny Hood because it makes you run faster and I even used the Bunny Hood to beat the final boss for the 1st time. All of the dungeons were mostly great. Aside from getting stumped a couple times, I was able to figure out these dungeons before the final day rolled in. I'm not great at Zelda games, but I managed to figure out this game pretty quickly once the controls became 2nd nature. Probably my favorite dungeon in the game is Stone Tower for being challenging and creative. My least favorite dungeon is probably Woodfall cuz it's piss easy. The bosses were fun. Gyorg stresses me out though. Now let's talk about the thing that has people mixed about this game: how you save the game. Personally, I'm not bothered by this. Yes, almost everything resets when you save the game which is why some people prefer the 3DS version, but the upside is that you can try again but with stuff you unlocked to make getting through the game much easier. It also gives you replay value if you want to 100% the game or beat the game twice without making another save file. That's how I beat the game twice. I understand why people hate how you save in this game, but I don't think it's a big deal. I will discuss my grievances with the game when I'm done talking about the miscellaneous stuff though.

THE GRAPHICS: The game looks great for an N64 game. It looks better than Superman 64 which is on the same console as this game. No wonder this game needed the RAM expansion pack because they pushed the limitations of the hardware to make this game look gloomy. The best-looking area in the game in my opinion is the upside-down Stone Tower at night because it looks gloomy and sad, but also somewhat beautiful. The outdated visuals also make the game look creepy which helps set the dark mood.

THE MUSIC: The music is just as great as the music in Ocarina of Time. The music is a lot more disturbing and perfectly sets the tone for certain areas. The 2 songs that creeped me out the most were the theme for the Telescope Observatory and the Ikana Valley theme. The Observatory theme is just downright depressing and the Ikana Valley theme is haunting with its ghostly choir and almost alien like sounds. Some of the songs are upbeat and makes me want to dance like an idiot like the Deku Palace theme. Overall, the music is great and fits this game very well.

THE PROBLEMS: I absolutely love this game, but I don't think it's perfect. Easily the worst part of the game was the Gibdo Fetch Quest. Good lord was it annoying. You have to be prepared for this because certain Gibdos need certain things and if you don't have them you have to backtrack and get those items. I had to get the milk at the night of the 2nd day because one of the Gibdos was a little cryptic and I accidentally drank all of the milk. The Great Bay Golden Skulltula house is a little tedious because you have to get an important item on the 1st day and only the 1st day. How you get the Fierce Deity mask at the end with the Moon Children is a little annoying. The Bombchu has been barely used throughout the rest of the game yet it's only useful if you want to get the Fierce Deity mask. I get that they made this game in 1 year, but couldn't there be a better way to better learn how to properly use the Bombchu instead of just learning it through an optional mini game? Like, why not make it mandatory for a dungeon instead of just throwing it in at the end of the game where the player probably forgot about the item?

FINAL THOUGHTS: The game has its problems since it was made in one year, but those problems are minor. I still think the game is brilliant for its emotional story and lore, great graphics, great music, fun intuitive gameplay and most of all, its atmosphere and mood. Like, I mostly didn't listen to stuff in the background while playing this because I didn't want to ruin the mood. In retrospect, I honestly hated it when the Game Grumps played this game because the mood and atmosphere was totally lost on them and not to mention that Arin was being a salty crybaby. I don't mind that they used a walkthrough for this game because I used a walkthrough for some segments in this game, but good lord was that playthrough insufferable. But with that being said, I can understand why some people don't dig this game. They probably hate the save system or the fact that the game is depressing. I get it. But the downsides won't stop me from loving the game and I will gladly give this game a 10 out of 10. It is my favorite Zelda game and I can finally cross this game off of my Gaming Bucket List.

Whew, that was long winded. Aveil won the poll over everyone else in the poll so deal with it. Might make more Zelda fat fetish art. Especially a drawing with Ruto. Will I play more Zelda games in the future? Definitely. I'll save Twilight Princess for another time. Preferably when I'm a little more "mmm, richer."
