Description Due to some real life happenings and a shortage of time that I'll have for a while, I'm backing out of this auction. Someone else deserves to own this wonderful design too, not just me hogging it and not having time for it <3

This image shows Dio around 1 year old, during one of his trips to the sea to search for the god Miur. The fire is there to show how entranced he is by the idea of Grian and her fire magic. We'll imagine it was created by a Silverthorne fire bringer who has stepped back to speak with Dio's mother, Jessamine. ;3 Please excuse my complete inability to draw water; this is my first attempt at a beach background lol.

I avoided adding a story to this bid because I feel it's already fairly long and I don't want to bore or overwhelm the admins with such a lengthy read since I know they're going to have a lot to look through. I hope it won't take away too much from my bid's validity, but if you feel that I should go back and add something in to go along with it, please let me know.

Shaman: a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits. Typically such people enter a trance state during a ritual, and practice divination and healing. Are thought to have ties to the divine realm.

Name: Dio (means "god")
Gender: Colt/Buck
Age: Newborn- Born Summer, Year 759
Height: Projected to be 11.2hh
Build: Light-Medium
Phenotype: Amber Champagne Fawn
Genotype: Ee/AA/ChCh/Ff/fwfw/nRx
Eye Color: Brownish Amber
Design Sheet: Number 1

Baubles/Physical Characteristics: Dio is extremely small, especially for a male, and is much lighter than others his age. This is from being born a twin, and he will likely always keep this build. Even though he is still very young he has committed his time to finding charms for advanced magic users to imbue with magic for him to wear once he is old enough to practice magic on his own. He intends to use them to both enhance his own magical connection and also to bring him spiritually closer to each of the five gods. So far he has found:
- Sea shell for Miur
- River stone for Sroth
- Red crystal for Grian
- Dried Moon Flowers for Luan
- Various feathers for Adhar

Sire: Cereus | NPC Silerthorne soldier | alive
Dam: Jessamine | NPC Silverthorne doe | alive

Trivia/Random Character Facts:
- Dio aspires to be a shaman of Silverthorne to serve his gods as best he can
- Dio's parents are both named after night-blooming flowers
- Dio's twin brother was killed by a cougar and Dio saw it as a sign from the gods (read below)
- *Not important until much later: Dio's sexuality is highly questionable

Personality:

Intensely Religious: Like most Fawnlings, Dio is very religious and loyal to his herd's beliefs, but he takes it to a level that few ever achieve. You could say he eats, sleeps, and breathes religion. He has become entirely obsessed with the legends his parents tell him and by the very idea of the gods. He wakes before dawn every morning to welcome Grian into the sky, and stays up every night until Luan crosses over him. Perhaps sleep deprivation adds to his manic excitement concerning the deities. On full moons, he chooses to stay awake through the entire night so that he can keep Luan company. Whenever his mother takes him to the shore, Dio searches for the sea god Miur for hours, until he is exhausted and must be taken home, and Dio even refuses to play in the rivers so that he does not offend the river god, Sroth, by trespassing into his territory and creating disturbance in his waters. He sees that many Silverthornes pray to Adhar, the sky god, but has noticed that they don't pay as much attention to the others. In contrast, he adores each and every one of them, even the grumpy ones. Dio has heard of some Fawnlings eating certain herbs and concoctions so that they have visions and hallucinations of the gods, and he is so incredibly excited about that possibility that the only thing stopping him from potentially poisoning himself is his mother, who keeps a close eye on him after his brother's death.

Racist: Though no one in his immediate family is particularly racist towards other herds or crossbred Fawnlings, Dio has developed a consuming hatred for them. He sees them as inferior and is disturbed that they would worship false gods while simultaneously claiming his own to be nonexistent. He has never personally met anyone with different bloodlines than his own, but he has overheard his parents talking and has heard other Fawnlings speaking of the other herds. If he were bigger and stronger, Dio would find these crossbreeds and inferior Fawnlings himself and convince them to worship the only true gods of Silverthorne. He can't see how anyone of Grian's children could ever be attracted to a Blackwood, Glenmore, Windborne, or especially an Oakfern. How disgusting! His parents have noticed his passion for pure blood and are proud that he has taken so much interest in his origins, though they don't particularly see it as being as extreme as it really is.

Intelligent: Dio has a supreme talent for picking up on small facts and clues that others overlook. It is apparent that what he lacks in muscle structure, he makes up for in cleverness. He is proud of the fact that he can remember many small details and catches on quickly, picking up on both words and emotions. Because of his active mind, Dio has many vivid dreams while he is asleep, which he usually remembers long after he wakes. Sometimes these dreams feature the gods, probably because they are always on his mind, and he interprets them as lessons and visions of the past. Dio gathers anyone who would like to hear the stories and tells these dreams in the format of stories, despite not knowing if they actually took place or not. He is quickly becoming an avid story teller and he treasures these dreams. He feels they are sent to him from the gods themselves.

Secretive/Anti-Social: Dio doesn't have many friends, not because he is strange or has no one to play with, but because he prefers not to. He is much too busy learning about the gods, herbs, Silverthorne's laws and customs, and anything else that would help guide him in the right direction. His brother had been the only one he ever interacted with, and since he is dead Dio no longer has any social communication. You could say he's rather anti-social because he has no interest or desire to make friends or join in their games. He sees them as childish even though he is a child himself. His mother tries to encourage him to play or share with others, but he just avoids contact with the other fawns whenever they come too close. Because he is not outwardly social or in any way an extrovert, he tends to be a bit secretive and keeps his thoughts to himself. He really only shares his ideas with his parents, mostly his mother. It isn't impossible to get him to come out of his shell and pay attention to you, but it takes a lot of convincing and usually something of interest on your part.

Vengeful: He's small now and doesn't pack much of a punch at all, but he remembers you if you slight him or otherwise offend him. In fact, he's counting on the day when he's big enough and skilled enough to pay back everyone who's ever been mean to him in full. When he's angry, he can become very dark and moody and it's best to leave him alone, lest you end up on his list as well. His mother tries her hardest to teach him not to be so vindictive, but to little success. He believes that the gods favor him, and showing him unkindness or disrespect is taken as an insult to his gods, even though, once again, he has no physical reason to think that any of the deities consider him to be special.

History: Dio and Rollo were born to Cereus and Jessamine of Silverthorne in the late Summer of the year 759. Jessamine, a lovely Silverthorne doe, birthed twins, which was extremely rare and intensely dangerous. The labor lasted for nearly 48 consecutive hours, draining her of all her strength and very nearly killing her along with her two children. Their father, Cereus, refused to leave her side even when his important duties as a soldier of Silverthorne demanded his attention. He couldn't make himself leave his mate, and wouldn't even if he could. For a very long time, it was touch and go, and there were moments when Cereus thought Jessamine would surely die. Her breath became shallow and weak and her sides stopped lifting with the rhythm of breath. At one point the thought even passed through his mind to put both her and the fawns out of their misery. A slow death was the worst thing to endure. Even Jessamine's own mother had come to see her daughter, unaware that Jessamine was in the middle of delivering twins. When she found out and witnessed the state of Jessamine's health, she shook her head solemnly, whispering in Cereus' ear that he best say his farewells soon, before she passed and it was too late. Before she left, she bid her daughter farewell and prayed to Adhar to see her safely into his sky kingdom.

Finally though, after what felt like a terrifying century of grief, the last of the two fawns, Dio, was brought into this world. Cereus was overcome with relief, barely able to stand or speak in his joy. Though he was exhausted from staying up for two nights keeping guard over his mate, he made himself stay awake and on his feet long enough to check them all over. Jessamine was in horrible condition. She had lost a lot of blood and Cereus realized that just because the delivery was over did not mean that the danger was as well. He sent for an expert healer immediately, both for the hind and for the two fawns as well. He was proud to see that they were both golden colts, though they were incredibly small and frail. He couldn't be surprised; most sets of twins died along with their dam when they were born. At least his sons were alive and breathing.

The aging healer arrived as quickly as she could and gasped when she saw the scene she had been summoned to. Blood covered the ground around Jessamine's body and the doe's eyes were shut tight. She examined the new mother, learning that Jessamine's body had been badly torn during the delivery, causing her loss of blood. A Fawnling doe's uterus is not designed to sustain two pregnancies, and it was evident that her's was no exception. Cereus held his breath while the healer examined every inch of his mate, fearing the worst. Jessamine was unconscious, both from pure exhaustion and from all the blood she had lost. The healer mixed up a powerful concoction of Arrownettle, Ironweed, Meadowoak, and Elderberries and gave it to Jessamine, hoping to numb her pain and boost her immune system so she would fair a little easier. The healer told Cereus that if Jessamine lived through the next two days, she would be alright.

As for the colts, they were both extremely small and slightly malnourished due to having to share a womb, but they would live so long as they were fed regularly and looked after closely. According to the healer, the only reason all three of them were alive was because Jessamine and Cereus had been extremely careful during her pregnancy and had made sure she was at the top of her health at all times, and because they had waited until their primes to have children. While Jessamine was unable to tend to them, Cereus' younger sister stepped in as a nursing surrogate to feed them, along with her own newborn fawn. The largest twin, Rollo, was bold and curious from the very start, while the other appeared to like to keep to himself more than pestering other Fawnlings.

Slowly and steadily, Jessamine came around and after nearly a week could stand on her own without shaking or falling. The small family rejoiced, knowing the gods surely looked down upon them with joy for this rare and precious miracle. Both parents told their children that the gods must favor them, for they were all blessed. For many weeks, they couldn't be happier. Cereus was able to return to his soldier duties and Jessamine welcomed motherhood with open hooves. Every day, she filled the colts' minds with lessons and amazing tales about the gods. Dio ate this up immediately, completely enthralled by the deities, while Rollo did not seem to favor the lore that his herd so treasured. Dio noticed this and became annoyed with his brother, trying many times to force Rollo into sitting still and listening to the explanation of all the five gods, but to no success.

While Dio was borderline obsessed with the idea of their religion, spending as much time as possible learning about them and trying to spiritually connect with them, Rollo enjoyed exploring and giving his mother anxiety attacks. He went anywhere he could, seeming to think he was much larger and stronger than he really was. Knowing that Dio was the most level-headed of the two brothers, his mother asked that he keep a close eye on his brother and make sure he didn't get into trouble. Dio hated doing this because it took away from his ability to learn more about Adhar, Grian, Luan, Sroth, and Miur, but he couldn't very well say no to his dam.

When Dio and Rollo were nearly half a year old, Rollo led them into the forests surrounding Coal Mine Creek against their mother's wishes. He was prancing along and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells while Dio was attempting to teach him about the legend of Grian and Luan and how they came to be in the sky in the first place. Rollo wasn't listening though, and after only a few minutes turned to Dio and outright confessed his disbelief in all of the gods and how he saw the stories of them as just that: stories. Dio was speechless. His shock soon turned to fury, and he began to scream at his brother, cursing him and threatening him that Adhar would never let him into the sky kingdom if he denied his existence like that. He couldn't believe anyone could deny their god in that way. In that moment, Dio mentally disowned Rollo as his brother. He refused to share blood with such a traitor. He was surprised by how quickly he lost all the love he had for his twin.

Unbeknownst to the bickering fawns, an adolescent cougar had been attracted to the noise and commotion. Rollo and Dio didn't stand a chance against the lethal cat; their screams fell upon deaf ears, for no one was patrolling the borders of the creek at that time, and they had wandered away from their mother in their ventures. Somehow, though Dio was much smaller and weaker, Rollo was the one that fell prey to the ferocious predator. Filled with terror, Dio ran as fast as he could to his dam, falling so many times that his knees were scraped and bloodied. They both sprinted back to save the colt as quickly as their muscles would allow, but it was too late by then. The cougar was gone and only a lock of hair was left of the small colt, which Jessamine now keeps wrapped around a polished quartz crystal tied around her neck.

Jessamine and Cereus were both stricken with grief and heartache and could scarcely be consoled, even by their remaining son. Something changed in Dio that day though, something that would shape who he would become and everything he would do with his life. Rollo had died just minutes after denouncing their gods. The gods had sent that cougar to punish Rollo for his treason and betrayal... The gods had chosen what to do with his fate, and they had chosen to spare Dio for his intense loyalty. He would become a shaman so that he could serve the deities with his life and teach the herd all about what they stand for and who they are. He would make his herd and his gods proud.

Future Plans:

Adolescent (1-3 years)

- Dio will meet Mercivorex 's curious Blackwood filly, Efrosini (if she is won as well), and they will strike up a very tedious "relationship"
    - Dio may try to trick her into something that will get her hurt/killed or will call the soldiers on her (he HATES "tainted" Fawnlings)
    - At some point Dio will explain the ST golds to her and why they are superior against her "fake" goddess

Buck (3.5-6 years)

- Dio is becoming more and more obsessed every year, and now he has begun to experiment with hallucinatory herbs
- Fawnlings his age avoid him for his unstable mentality and find his infatuation unsettling
- Around 5 years old, Dio begins to realize his own sexuality
- Lack of interest in does will lead Dio to believe the gods have chosen him to remain "pure" and "untainted" and therefor unhindered by family feelings

That's all I'm going to list for now, since he's only a fawn so everything is subject to change, and his adult life is not what this bid is about lol.

I don't really either, but I think it makes for a very exciting character to play, especially in TWI where I've seen that newer characters tend to be less and less religious anymore lol.

Thank you! I hope I get him.

Oh my gosh PLEASEEEE win this fawnling, this guy sounds awesome.

And I plan for Nimia to have a kiddo this rut, I would LOVE for him to hang out with Dio and for some of Dio's religious and racist views to rub off on him. He'd make an awesome little follower |:

And Dio is vengeful.... Vengeful fawnlings always need young henchmen >D

*cough cough*

But anyway... hmm. For ST and for his personality I would personally go with... maybe 2, 2 hasn't had many bids yet. Or 3, personally I think 3 or 8 would be my favorite for him P:

Or 6
But 6 has a lot of bids already...

BUT
2, 3, 6 or 8

Oh my god you don't even know how badly I want to win him! I am like completely obsessed with him right now lol.

Of course, he HAS to have a few little minions!

I'm actually thinking about going for number 1! Since gold in Silverthorne is thought to be likened to Grian, and religiousness is Dio's most outstanding characteristic, I wanted to keep the color more on the golden-ish side. Originally I wanted to go for 8, but there are so many other great bids for that one that I'd be terrified I wouldn't get him lol.

I'll be drawing him tomorrow though, so I'll play around with all the designs!

Mercivorex In reply to goldkings [2014-07-25 04:40:09 +0000 UTC]

I thought about mentioning 1, but... honestly 1 looked girlie to me from the start xD BUT it's more in how it's drawn... the eyelashes and feminine figure of the fawn lineart gets me |D And yeah, the bids for 8 so far are wonderful. 1 would suit him well and would liken him to Grain for sure, which I am sure would please the little guy with his religious beliefs.

I'd love for you to maybe jm tomorrow if ya work on him! I would adore watching this baby boy come to life ;w;
