Description Here is May - a tough sparrow who really knows how to fight. She has spent a long time training on how to battle both land-based and aerial species. May is part of a certain group of birds who swear off flight at times as part of a show against the cruelty of avian species. Her wings are bound back so as to only leave a few feathers with which to manipulate the world around them. Well, on top of their prehensile feet, of course.

Flyers are not seen in a very high regard and they act very cruelly towards anything that cannot catch them, like anything that can't fly. Consequently, almost all land species view birds as evil because of this. There are some who are against this conflict, and they're often perceived as being against both sides. It can be a poor, tough, yet virtuous life they lead

May is planned to be a fairly prominent character in a story I'm developing. More of her will likely show up in the future ^^

I once had the idea of a secret group of avians, all top-notch fighters and adventurers: The Steel Feathers Brotherhood; my idea was that the bulk of the members should be birds not normally associated with combat: Peacocks, swans, sparrows and so forth. As long as I remember, only one bird was easily recognizable as a fighter, a South American Chaja.

That is a very interesting idea, I really like it. They would really be able to catch others off their guard, eh? "What can he do? He's just a hummingbird!"

Exactly the idea! And the peacocks preceded Lord Sheng for a year or two.

Here they are: [link]

Awesome x) That style feels very unique too. I've seen a few other pictures that are basically copies of Sheng's design. You have something very neat going on there

One thing I really envy of lord Shen is how he used his tailfeathers in combat; interestingly, in KFP tv series appeared an evil Barn Owl that could have been a worthy opponent for the team and a tough associate for Lord Chen as well.
And Barn owls aren't also the normal 'evil type' either.
Oh, and many tanks for the comment; it means a lot for me!

She actually looks more like a finch, or maybe some sort of tanager because of her coloration,
but her design is still nice :3

She certainly could be, yes x) I just searched those up and they definitely keep the same general form while being much more colourful. I guess 'songbird' in the description instead of sparrow would fit, since she still is under design Thanks for giving me some bird names to reference!
Aye, I like her I'm glad you do too!

Nah, for some reason I've been way from the internet communities lately... I'll have to do something about that. But hey, I'm working on a story of my own, so who knows I'll get back to dA... ;3

And in any case I'll just keep on lurking... >w>

Very nicely done. I like how the colors create shadow and light on her wings.

Quite epic, I must say! She's definitely a tough-looking avian that I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. XD Your story idea is sounding pretty interesting, too.

Thanks Hawk! Aye, if you met her in a dark alley, she'd beat you up and then ask questions later

They're quite the acrobats as well. Lightweight bodies + no wings to catch the air and get in the way = speedy little tricksters.

Well, that's not very nice now, is it? XD

I imagine they are!

A bird like her can't afford to be nice very often x) I'm sure she'll warm up after she knows you mean no harm though

LieutenantHawk In reply to Goldquiver [2011-10-07 19:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, it might be hard for her to figure me out while she's beating me to a pulp. XD

Goldquiver In reply to LieutenantHawk [2011-10-07 21:13:18 +0000 UTC]

Better safe than sorry for her, I suppose. I'm sure a 'stop beating me up!' would get her to listen for a while longer. x)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LieutenantHawk In reply to Goldquiver [2011-10-07 22:42:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, wouldn't anyone, good or bad, request that she stop the beating? That statement by itself probably wouldn't make her stop. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goldquiver In reply to LieutenantHawk [2011-10-07 22:46:22 +0000 UTC]

I suppose. Or they'd fight back, and that would add in a bunch of chaos over nothing They'll fight just because they assume the worst.

I see the reason in what you're saying, but as for this birdie. Well, I guess she'd at least challenge whomever she meets in that dark alley first. Going straight to 'beat you up' would be pushing it.
