This image was chosen by The Herald newspaper (Scotland's national broadsheet) as their photo of the day on Friday, 18th March 2011.

The recent return of wintry weather allowed me to revisit this beech tree which stands in a field a few miles from my house.

There's a halo which makes for a great visual bullseye just below the tree and I modulated the edges of the image to contain the visual energy of the scene.

The snow has highlighted the branches against the dark background as if they were veins. Connected to the snow covered field below, one might be forgiven for believing the tree was visibly drawing energy from the ground.
