You should try crossing a horse with a cardinal, just an idea. I really like your idea of crossing horses and birds.

I love it! Until moving to Germany, I hadn't seen magpies since I was very young. Beautiful work!

It's a very ineresting, innovative idea, and one that I admire. Crossing horses and birds, I mean.

Just came back from home and found my older sketches of horses from waaaaaaaay back in 4-6th grade. Apparently there were two versions of my black horse/pegasus/thing. You can choose to illustrate either one, but I like the first version better!
Phase 1: "Fell Horse/Pony" breed. Jet black with a flowing obsidian mane. The Fell breed has black "feathers" along it's hooves, like a Clydesdale. Semi-muscular power horse, smooth-flowing ebony tail. It has black feathered hawk-like wings, with the tips of the primary feathers being tinged in crimson(if you'd like to go with bat-wings, that'd be cool as well. Several of my dark pegasus pics have jointy bat wings - as if they have arthritis on their knuckles. LOL). In my pic the eyes are a vacant white, but you can improvise on that - heck, you could cover his eyes with mane if you like. The only colour that strikes against it's dark form is a small streak of white hair in the upper-middle of it's mane seemingly looking like a shaft of lightning.
Phase 2: Grey-Black Icelandic horse (very fuzzy) Being darkest on the top, fading to a grey near the belly. Grey scraggly mane draped over his eyes, and tail of the same colour. Having very long, pointed wings of a grey heron.
Draw either one of them as you like, I'm not too picky, as long as it's as kewl as your previous drawings. My first "Fell Pegasus" would look cool in a raging gallop, whereas the Icelandic Softie would be calm, possibly overlooking a horizon or something. (try for the Fell Pegasus first) For this commission, the badger pelt is yours.
Let me know what'cha think, or if you have any questions.

This is a great piece. Might I suggest the Red Winged Black Bird?? Sometimes when you look at the black it shines blue also. But there is white and red on the wings only. Or the robin would be lovely. Or might you try a woodpecker or goldfinch?
Sorry about the list of birds. I get alot around my area. Even Hummingbirds.

Well, glad I could help you some. If I knew any other birds I would mention them but most are ducks.

Too soon? I say not soon enough. I don't think magpies are noisey but then I own around 65 birds so I wouldn't think that. I love magpies because they are smart members of the crow family that can learn to talk. Great job on this.
