I loved the movie but it broke my heart to pieces. I'm pretty sure FMA 2003 ripped my heart to pieces. xD

People didn't hate Envy for turning into a dragon.Β I hated that he was anti-climactically defeated and was reduced to a plot device.Β Why was Envy even in the movie if he was going be wasted?
I also hated how they handled Izumi and Hohnhiem's deaths.Β Izumi wasn't important enough for an on-screen death?Β Yeah, forget Edward's father.Β We don't want him cutting into the screen time of our Mary Sue Gypsy.
Finally, the ending and Alβs soul armor ability.Β We didnβt hate it because it was tragic.Β We hated it because it was caused by a massive plot hole.Β Why didnβt Al transfer his soul to a suit of armor and close the gate on the other side?Β Youβre telling me that in the time it took him to stuff himself in that suit of armor, the thought of putting his soul in it did not once occur to him?Β What was the point of giving him that ability if he wasnβt going to use it to resolve the conflict?Β Ed and Al got separated from their loved once because they couldnβt use their brains for more than five seconds.Β It all could have easily been avoided.Β Giving Al the soul transfer ability ruined the movie because it gave the ending a huge plot hole.Β If they just didnβt have that ability, them being trapped in the other world wouldnβt bother me as much.

Well, to be honest, I didn't really like the ending of the first anime that much, not because it wasn't a happy ending (it was one in some aspects, but not so much in others, but that's irrelevant), I just didn't really like it that much because I didn't feel it was handled that great. I still enjoyed the ending as well as the movie, though.

I think the reason people complain about Mustang's angst was that at the end of episode 51, he seemed emotionally fine.Β It's like he suddenly had an epiphany that a child died before his eyes a year or twoΒ after it happened.
Β
I didn't have a problem with Envy being a dragon.Β What I did have a problem with was how he was handled.Β You'd think that being stuck in that dragon form against somebody who can't use Alchemy in this world would make for an interesting conflict, but instead, he spends 99% of his screentime pinned to the ground.Β
Β
That was a problem in general I had with the 2003 series: the villains' defeats were poorly handled.Β Bradley could have easily avoided his death if he didn't give Selim that key.Β I get that he's the sin of Pride, but I think it was completely idiotic of him to keep his kryptonite like a hunting trophy.Β Then you have Dante, who after 51 episodes of build up, runs away, vows vengeance like a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain, and then gets eaten by Gluttony offscreen.Β If they were trying to make her fate terrifying by having us not know what happens, it kind of falls flat and easy to figure out considering who Gluttony is.Β It's a shame too, since they all were great villains character-wise.

Brotherhood: Not depressing enough.

We go to fiction to escape the harshness of reality. It irks me that people say the Manga had no depressing points. Ed had to get rid of his Alchemy and didn't even get his leg back, and Fu, Buccaneer, Greed, and Hohenhiem died. Sure, it wasn't a bloodbath like every Shakespeare story ever, but it had something.
After all the hardships the Elrics endured, don't they deserve this?
π: 0 β©: 1
GreedLin In reply to RandomPancake1108 [2013-05-06 17:54:33 +0000 UTC]
Fu, Buccaneer were minor characters. Greed was a antivillian so he wasn't really a hero. Hohenhim wanted to die, he was sad that Trishia had to go first. Ed could have taken his leg back but decides to keep it (something about giving Winry something to do) and Ed could careless about his alchemy because "As Long as I have my friends"
No they don't deserve it, they committed a sin and then end up clean, sorry if the writer was going to have it be a happy ending she should have lowered the drama from the surrounding chapters. With the stakes being as low as she had it and every main character getting what they want in the end up being this big drawn out thing then no one dies, heck no one even gets hurt. (Roy get's his eyes back, Riza can talk, Havoc can walk) I mean come on, she should have at least given people scars at least. I like Disney movies (happy happy endings) but that was too much. I mean really, Lin becomes Emperor, May's family will be protected by Lin's, Winry get's Ed and two babies, Al gets May and his body, Roy gets his sight back, Havoc can walk, Riza can speck, the old guy who Roy worked under becomes Furhur, Wrath's Wife gets a baby (Pride) to raise all over again, etc. it's just to much happy.

Not losing, misplacing. It's only lost if they never got them back (or in Ed case chose to not take it back)

I simply disliked it because who thought it would be a good idea to add NAZIS to FMA? Or to incorporate the real world at all? The series was great in the universe it had, trying to connect it to the real world just made everything fall flat. It somehow seemed less realistic and relatable.
The one high point of the movie was the fight between wrath and gluttony. That was pretty cool.

It actually broke my heart to see Alphonse dressed like Edward. To me it wasn't so much that he was honouring the dead, so much as he was trying to emulate his brother - as if copying Edward would somehow bring him closer.
But yeah, that aside, I agree. Shamballa was awesome. There is so much hatred for it and I honestly can't see where it comes from.
And am I really the only one who wasn't too saddened that there was no EdWin in the end? I mean... their friendship was awesome and it sucked they were separated, but I didn't really care for a romantic relationship between them. idk. It just doesn't seem like a good reason to disregard the entire film.

I loved the movie so much and as many times as I have seen it, it still makes me cry at certain parts all the time. The reasons people hate this movie make no sense. I mean, come on, it's been explained probably at least twice in the episodes and in the movie itself. I'm assuming the disliking people, judging from the reasons, are just weeaboos and probably some yaoi fangirls who don't know how to appreciate a good movie.

I really do like Shamballa. I feel it captured the awesome of the manga and Brotherhood that FMA(2003) couldn't. The fight with Gluttony and Wrath was OK,but what made the movie awesome for me was the whole atmosphere of the thing. And the animation is just plain awesome(Wow they actually tried like in Brotherhood). I also LOVED the opening animation with the littl recap. Don't think I have anything against FMA(2003), it was just a good anime, while the movie and the manga and Brotherhood are epic.

hahaha your description made me laugh.
I did enjoy shamballa as a movie over all, but at the same time I didn't LOVE it. I don't know why. I guess part of it was a combination of some of the reasons you talked about lol.
besides, the last few episodes of the anime werent really part of the original storyline. I think it was because the production of the anime caught up with the manga chapters, and the manga series was nowhere near finished. so the animators kind of had to make up an ending

the ending to the original anime was pretty cool. I think the only reason I liked the brotherhood ending a TINY bit more is because there werent as many loose ends.

I actually DID love the movie. The art and everything.
I admit I disliked no EdxWinry, but, Ed had a very important reason to go back. [/nod] And I was happy he was reunited with his brother, too, even if he didn't want Alphonse to follow. XD
I loved the first anime and the movie cause it lead me to the Manga. I never would've even known about FMA if it wasn't for the first anime.
I still love the Manga more cause of more awesome characters, but, I just love FMA as a holw. c:

GO GO CONQUEROR OF SHAMBALA!! xD We really needed something supporting the First Anime and CoS!
And I think you forgot, among the stupid reasons, "BAWWWWWWWWWW ALTER!HUGHES IS A NAZI".
Why hello there ladies, IT'S GERMANY RIGHT BEFORE WORLD WAR II, back then you were either a Nazi or something not very different from a dead corpse. Most, if not ALL people, if they wanted to keep their jobs and be safe, HAD to follow the Nazi Party.
And I remember it was very obvious Alter!Hughes didn't agree with the Nazi Party at all. He was still a good guy. Sooo, uhm, why the bitching?
For the "Al can separate his soul" thing, I think he said it himself: his soul is easily detachable (probably a side effect of him having been distant from his body for a long time), so it makes him able to do that stuff.
And lookety look, this is a thing that may be of interest: [link] After reading this, I think it wasn't ABSOLUTELY random the choice of Dragon!Envy.
Pffft at the "BAWWWWWWWWW ED AND WINRY DIDNT HAV TEH SMECKS CONQUEROR OF SHAMBALA SUXXX" reason.
1) Absolutely sure you aren't mistaking FMA for an EdxWinry fanfiction? Because it sure as hell looks like you are.
2) And they keep saying that I'm just making things up and no one ever used that as a reason to dislike the First Anime and Conqueror of Shambala. Suuure.
PS: The list's good, but it needs some spell-checking.

It was kinda meh for FMA, but by alone is a pretty good movie and very interesting. And I loved the ending, it was perfect. Also Shambala!Edward is my favorite version of him, maybe because he is more mature :9 he piss me off in Brotherhood.

I didn't like that Al dressed like Ed because, well, the coat or ponytail, ok. But all the outfit? no. Ed and Al have different styles and attitudes. And as "honoring the dead thing" well, wasn't Al so sure his bro wasn't dead?
I also didn't like how vague (nonexistent) the closure was. The last episode kinda gave a clue (little snapshots of their life) but in the movie they messed that up (I am talking about Roy and Riza) not even Al and Ed got a decent closure (the OVA did however).
Also, you can add this to the "stupid" reasons why people don't like the movie: Plotholes!
like "how does Al separates part of his soul?" That's human transmutation, and no matter how much his soul has been from body to body it's still a soul, not some metal you can transmute once and again.
And "why did Ed had to come back? Couldn't he just close the portal from one side?" he can't use alchemy in this world, so how did he close it from this side anyway? the movie never shows...
Sure, the movie was awesome in animation and battles and overall pretty, good for AMV and fanfic. But sadly, not good enough as a closing chapter for the series.
And one last thing. You said "There are probably more dumb reason why people or so called 'Fans' hate the Movie but these are the the ones I get the most." and yet, you just added a few reasons ONE person wrote here. The gun thing it's not a real reason nor the patch. Nobody really cares about that.
π: 0 β©: 1
GreedLin In reply to yoporock [2011-04-24 16:21:32 +0000 UTC]
Now this dumb reason is more of a guess
"Why can Al separate his soul"
Well maybe his soul like Bary the Chopper said "Your body will reject your soul" so maybe sense his body was only regain with the philosopher stone that every time he uses alchemy he gets closer to losing his soul forever.
"Why did Ed Have to Go Back? How Did he close the Gate on Earth's side"
Well if he just left it open on Earth's side what happened at the beginning of the film, with the metal soldiers would happen again. Now this one is probably a guess but they probably didn't close the gate, they just berried it by blowing the building up.
There are probably more dumb reason why people or so called 'Fans' hate the Movie but these are the the ones I get the most. If you haters have anymore reasons I'll be happy to prove you wrong, and your dumbness will be added to the list.
P.S. You would be surprised how many times that comes up on the one and two star rating on Amazon.com

At least he lost his eye, in the manga he gets blind and then he recovers his vision because the zomg magical powers of the Philosopher Stone (and friendship) bah why he didn't stay blind?.
Explain that bullshit please
And mostly of people that blindy workship the manga and loathe the first series is because the pairings are not canon enough and there are less zomg! battles. Also the xingese characters are mary sue/gary stu.
