Cyclops
Real Name: Scott Summers
First Appearance: The X-Men #1 (September 1963)

Back when Charles Xavier first opened his School for Gifted Youngsters a young Scott Summers was one of his first students. Scott seemed to be an orphan with no other family, so Xavier became something of a father figure to the young mutant, helping Scott handle his mutant gift for projecting beams of energy from his eyes by giving him a visor that would control the energy flow. While Scott was somewhat emotionally stunted, his aptitude for action and leadership helped Xavier formulate the idea of forming a team of mutants from his school as a hidden strike force, something to combat the rising forces that feared mutantkind and wished to see it destroyed. So Scott, call sign "Cyclops," would be the first of Xavier's new "X-Men" and the new team's leader.

By the time of the formation of the second X-Men team (with Wolverine and what have you) Scott had been a fixture in the X-Men for many years. Of course Cyclops and Wolverine's personalities would lead to a lot of clashing after that point.

Alright, so, that's Cyclops alright. I went through a couple design variations before I settled here, a design that is supposed to call back to his original design. I tried going for a more traditional adaptation with his hair visible and all that but I decided I wanted to attempt something a little different, and at some point I landed on the idea of him wearing a helmet of sorts as a call back to his cowl designs (kinda like I did with Captain America). The visor is intended to kind of look like a flight helmet visor, like there's a couple layers to it--a traditional cyclops type goggles contraption and then a flip down shaded visor over that, I thought it looked pretty neat and distinct. His vest is sort of based on the vests from First Class, though I had the belts form an "X" pattern over that. Maybe this is kind of the X-Men uniform, or at least a basic one?

--UPDATE March 20, 2019:
Like Wolverine I was never completely satisfied with my first go at Cyclops and felt he was worth a redo. My initial design was based on his original look from the sixties, but thinking on it, that's like Cyclops' least iconic look, I wanted to do something more satisfyingly "Cyclops" than just a generic X-Men uniform. So I decided to use a more modern Cyclops design, specifically the one from around Avengers vs. X-Men, and tailor it to my kind of militaristic helmeted look. So the helmet design is retained (though I included a chin strap, which makes it resemble his cowl more I think) and he still has a vest and tactical pants or whatever, but they're designed to look like his AvX suit.
