Description It Speaks

Here I am: tied. The chains of sorrow binding me to the jagged rocks of the shadows of the soul's secrets. My head hangs instead of looking at scratched and dry skeletons of those who used to be chained to my left and right. Hair mangled by the hot winds of hate and anger looks lifeless and has come loose from it's binding. This place is a desert, sand and rock as far as my bleary eyes can see. And chains, chains and skeletons everywhere. A cry tears from my aching throat, sounding feral and barely human after days of screaming rage and crying for nothing but my own entrapment. The burning cold of the chains bite into tender flesh and loose new blood as I tug on the dull metal.

A flutter of blackness and I stop and turn my red eyes to the jagged rock ripping from the ground at a painful angel at my right. A bird sits there, black as night and reflecting nothing, it's dread feathers drinking in all light instead of giving it back to this harsh place. It opens and closes its beak, making a clacking sound in this empty place; it is the only sound save the ones I myself have made that I have heard in days upon days.

"There is no use fighting it," said the bird. It speaks. The voice was odd, as one expected it to be cocky and harsh on the ears. This voice though was cultured and smooth, talking with correct enunciation of every word, every phrase. "You are bound in this place until you become like the rest: nothing but bleached bones to be scratched at by the sand on the wind."

"I do not believe you," I said back, hoarsely, my own voice sounding like a crude instrument in comparison to this winged things.

The bird only laughed and flew away, the reverberations of his cruelty sounding in my eardrums. When his cruel mocking had faded his voice drifted back to me though I could not spot his blackness in the cloudless blue sky, the sun bright overhead, burning into my eyes. "You turned the key on your own chains and have bound yourself here. Will you remember what you did with the key before you fade like the others?"

Tears ran down my cheeks again, mouth mumbling in disbelief against his words. They were true, I realized as memories went by. Another cry tore through my throat as I tugged at the chains, feeding the cry and cracking ground my blood.
