Description
Bonjour! So a while ago, I had an idea to draw Harper being all spooky with glowing eyes and such. And I have a new laptop which I've been trying out Krita on, so I felt like booting it up and sketching out a rough drawing of the idea, whether to use as the base for the full drawing or just for practice. But hey, what do you know, I had so much fun that I played around for a while and ended up making something more complete. Dude, seriously, Krita comes with such great digital brushes right out of the metaphorical box. They felt perfect for playing around and adding a bit more depth with. Next time I would like to use something other than a smooth digital brush for the main lineart and colour, to add a bit more visual interest. But I still quite like how this turned out.
The one downside I see with using Krita is that when I'm in tablet mode with the laptop folded the other way, I obviously can't use keyboard shortcuts. So if I want to do certain things like zooming in, it's very fiddly. And despite my laptop having a healthy screen resolution, it's a small machine, so the pixels are tiny... meaning every app defaults to 300% zoom just so you can see anything. Which, in turn, means there's not actually that much room on screen. Also I couldn't figure out Krita's text tool. After I eventually managed to get the text on, then went to a different tool and the text just disappeared and wouldn't come back, I just gave up and sent it to Photoshop so I could do the text there, plus a couple of extra layers to adjust the atmosphere and contrast. I have all the fonts I like on my main PC anyway.
Previously I drew these in Krita, which I also posted a status update about.
These are both of the protagonist of my university comic project. I'd like to properly finish that one with the ice cream once I figure out this character's colours. (And this time last year, I would've uploaded that one on the right separately, but nowadays I'm trying to restrict my DA uploads to actual finished pics. I was reluctant even to upload that Foosie icon.)
And oh yeah, the fact that I drew this in October is just a coincidence. Like I said, I had the idea a while ago.
EDIT: I almost forgot to mention, yeah I've modified Harper's design slightly. See the cuffs on the wrists and ankles on the original concept sheet?
I decided to remove those to streamline the design a little, and I'm also playing with the proportions a bit.
