Okay, I took a bit of a break from drawing... more than a fortnight I think, but I decided to come back to this and finish it! It's the boy as a Salandit! And what a good boy he is. I really do like the way his design meshes with Salandit's design - I'd been thinking about which Pokemon he would be, and I think Salandit fits the best. (Fitting too, since it's the pre-evolved form of my favourite Pokemon.) The two hair bits on top are like the antennae on Salandit's neck, the darker feet are similar on Salandit too... and for that I could make his right hand the same colour as his body, just like with his normal design. The green eye is different to both his orange and Salandit's purple; I didn't think orange would work because the design has orange elsewhere, so I decided on green to recall his original design.
This one had a bit of a troubled development, if you will. The sketch took longer than it should have, and ended up with multiple issues, mainly anatomy-based. I found myself in a mental tug-of-war between what kind of proportions to go for; and what level of detail. At the lineart stage (which I finally got to just yesterday - note that I posted a WIP sketch on the 8th of May), I ended up making quite a few changes, which is very unusual for me. But anyway, it's done now, and I like the way it looks, and I like the way he looks. What a cute lad.
I really should do a refsheet for the boy at some point...
