Description on one hand i'm glad that people are not intimidated by eisenman's brilliant, but frightfully imposing field of concrete.

on the other hand i wonder if the sheer monumentalism of it degrades its purpose to being simply background scenery for random tourist posings.

i can only recommend to use the tv tower, the reichstag or the brandenburg gate instead (all of those buildings deserve to get stripped of their original chauvinist intent).

but put away your digicam HERE at least for a moment. to experience the eerie feeling of being trapped, of seeing/hearing other people appear and disappear in the blink of an eye, of stumbling deeper into the towering darkness, not seeing what is hiding behind the next corner.
this memorial isn't built to be devoutly adored from afar or respectfully strolled around - you should claw your way through it, scream on top of your lungs - maybe someone will answer. if not, that is an answer in itself.
i saw school class doing just that, running and yelling through the narrow pathways between the monoliths.
good example, imho.

ih kanns nur wärmstens empfehlen! im jüdischen museum gibts einige kleinere räume, die ähnliche effekte haben, aber dort bin ich vollgepflaumt worden, als ich mit meinem kompletten equipment rein wollte.
