Description The Jester, one of my regular characters, looks at us.

A test of light. I wanted to avoid solid blacks and I also set out to use Krita's sketchbrush for as much of the work as I could get away with (so no smoothing).

Krita, some 6 hours. Used some reference to get the position of the head and the planes of the face right.

I love your works and this one is no exception, I especially like the lively eyes, the expression and the lighting.
A slight nitpick is the anatomy of the neck.
Perhaps a tiny dash of black or saturated colors could help the image and the contrasts, but that's my personal taste.

Otherwise, great work!

Overall I was aiming for a less saturated style here, deliberately avoiding solid blacks as much as I could. I usually work in a nearly chiaroscuro style with lots of saturated blacks so it's good practice for me to try something less contrasted sometimes. The point is well taken though.

As far as I can tell there is nothing strange with the anatomy of the neck, care to elaborate on what you don't like about its anatomy?

The Jester is fun to draw sure, but there is also a reason I re-paint existing characters of mine. The focus here was to experiment with not using solid blacks and light coming from another position than I'm used to; making an existing character still recognizable with slightly different styles is good training in itself.

This is very much an experiment in not using solid blacks (which I normally tend to use quite a bit), so I'm glad atmosphere and feeling is still being conveyed with this style. I also like the Jester, it's nice to paint a character that makes yourself smile too.
