It's called a spider because it just looks like one, even without the correct number of legs (that makes total sense if you don't think about it). So, no horrible, and possibly painful, birth defects involved.
Though, I've heard that it's a tick, not a spider.

It's not too sad. You were going to realize it eventually, now just happened to be the time or 13 hours ago, technically. Also, it took me awhile to figure that out too :/ (mostly from the comments people left). The tick part was even starring right me, how did I miss that!?

It's evolution however... it a giant motherf****** yellow tarantula. This, is the smallest Pokemon, but can suck the life out of your Pikachu.
