Description This is a mini ship I made as part of my Moby Dick project for my illustration studio class. I may use it in a shadowbox or put it in a display case by itself...I'm not sure yet. It is made out of cork, book cloth, toothpicks, mini brass brads, and embroidery floss. I painted it with black acrylic paint and metallic gold marker. It's 1.5" x 1.5"!

I looked at other mini ship models for inspiration. I've never carved wood before though, so I considered what might look like wood and be easier to carve. My roommates drink wine almost every night (not me I'm a beer girl )so they have several wine bottle corks laying around. A lightbulb went off lol. And happily, it was really easy to carve. The other supplies I already had from my book structures class, art classes, and obviously the toothpicks were in the kitchen. haha. So if you wanted to attempt this yourself it would be cheap and easy

I'm so very happy with this ship I just love it!
More pictures of the rest of my project to come...

You'd never guess such a cute little ship would be full of blood thirsty pirates. Little ones though....

Amazing job with this, you are talented.

LOL--Pequod. I wonder if Ahab ever realized how such a name for his ship was more adorable than it was intimidating! Nicely done on crafting such a small scaled ship, though! I hope we'll be seeing Moby at some point!

Yeah it is a cute name for a ship that's supposed to look like death haha. Thank you so much, Dolly. Yes I'll be posting my final project including Moby this weekend!
