They're like cool cybernetic aliens, and monsters crossed with them look like robots. It's really cool.
Techno looks like a cool new recruit for Oddworld as well. Also, while Sligs normally, don't have legs (as the robotic pants are their only means of transportation) Techno actually has his own built in legs! Making other Sligs jealous of them.
Techno's metallic, robotic design was based on an awesome robotic toy panther I used to own called Silverado.
