Plus, if she's Ryu's granddaughter, he would teach her some sword fighting, correct?
And if they stood up Johnathan, and made him like her, then he'd be more sucseptible to being caught by them.

Because of the mask. When heroes fight someone masked in heavy fights (sometimes to the death), if the opponent looses/takes off said mask it most likely reveals someone they would not normally fight (relatives, good friends, etc.).
