From Larry Niven's novel Ringworld.

Almost only used for intestellar travel, this statoreactor device allows for a "permanent" refueling of the engine: an electromagnetic field supplied by autorecharging batteries and built around the prow captures interstellar hydrogen atoms and carries them back to the huge front overture, mouth of the main reactor; this field compresses the hydrogen particules until they reach fusion point –this power source allows propulsion. See a tri-reactor variation here: fav.me/d4xet15 And a generation ship version there: guilhem-bedos.deviantart.com/a…

Made with pencil & marker in 1996

Cool. It's got a Chris Foss feel to it.

I dunno: it was invented by a science-fiction writer who has very solid knowledge in science and physics, so I assume he knows his stuff –and, personnally, I love the idea of a space ship with a mouth... ^^

Thanks to have taken the time to comment :]

Bet you love "Space Cruiser Yamato/Star Blazers", eh?

I like Yamato more than I love it, actually, but I hadn't watched any of these animes before drawing this ship: I found my inspiration for this one in the paintings of Christopher Foss :]
