Sköll is quiet but friendly. She only interacts with people who require or want her attention. She has almost no filter for what comes out of her mouth, being very blunt and to the point. She has a bawdy sense of humor and a bit of a mischievous streak, this is especially apparent when you find her in a bar sipping on her favourite drink; whiskey! She's very comfortable with her body, and proud of her scars, but is incredibly paranoid about someone accidentally seeing her White Fang tattoo.
Sköll has a habit of singing folk or mining songs to herself to help fill silences, usually picking songs that match the mood of the room. She also has a massive affinity towards animals and sometimes portrays a few animalistic behaviours herself, especially when tracking or hunting.
History
Sköll grew up in a rather large Dust Mine town north of Atlas called Flocke. At the age of 22 she lost her entire family in horrific accident in the mines. She left the town shortly afterwards with a woman who had been staying in Flocke temporarily; a cat-clawed Faunus huntress/White Fang agent named Pangur Bán. The two of them headed to Vale where Pagnur spent the next several years training Sköll to be a huntress, while the two of them worked together as agents of The White Fang.
During the time of The White Fang's reformation under the rule of Sienna Khan, Pangur and Sköll had a falling out based on their differing views on Khan's rule. The argument ended with Pangur scarring Sköll's left shoulder in a fight and Sköll fleeing The White Fang's camp.
During her escape, however, she was attacked by Grimm and suffered a near fatal blow, but was able to save herself by using her semblance to take over the body of the Beowulf that attacked her, and use it to carry her injured body to a nearby village where she was able to receive medical attention.
Currently, Sköll is in hiding in the mountainous regions north of the Kingdom of Mistral. She lives quietly and peacefully alone in the wilderness and has spent the last 4 years keeping her whereabouts unknown.
Trivia:
- The name "Pangur Bán" is a reference to an old Irish poem of the same name, written by a monk about his cat. The word "pangur" means "fulling" (a method of cleaning wool) while "bán" means "fair" or "white". It was the name of the cat in the poem.
- Sköll's name, and the names of her family, are all taken from mythical creatures of Norse legends:
** "Sleipir" was the name of an 8-legged grey stallion which belonged to the god Odin
** "Fenrir" was a giant wolf who was an enemy of the Gods
** "Sköll" and "Hati" were the two sons of Fenrir.
- Her surname, "Hvidvargr", is an amalgamation of two words; the modern Danish word "hvid" meaning "white", and the Old Norse word "vargr" meaning "warg" (a mythical wolf-like creature). The word "warg" was usually used in reference to the giant, mythical wolf Fenrir and his sons, Sköll and Hati. So, roughly, her whole name translates to "Sköll the White Warg".
- According to legend, Sköll and Hati were the two wolves who were said to chase the sun and moon across the sky every day and night. The color of her semblance, eyes and hair are meant to reference the light of the sun which her namesake chased.
- Sköll's emblem further references this legend, consisting of a Celtic knot design of wolf's paw print inside the circle of a sun.
- The names of her sword and shield are also taken from the names of mythological wolves. The two wolves "Geri" and "Freki" were said to be companions of the god Odin alongside his two ravens, "Huginn" and "Muninn".
-Odin's ravens are referenced again in her semblance power. Huginn and Muninn's names are derived from the Old Norse words "hugr" and "minni", meaning "thought" and "memory". The two ravens were said to serve as extensions of Odin and would fly around the world every day and return to Odin to tell him all that they saw.
