Model: TomokoOsaka, JP 2006
Tomoko has been a very loyal model for me. She was 18. She went to school 2 minutes from where I stayed. Sometimes after school, she visited me. She did not speak any English, so I do not know her story in detail. She was very expressive in her photos though and that's why I just let her do what she wanted. I sat there in my room and photographed her quietly. I let her take center stage. I was her first photographer.

She looks like a child. I don't know why I thought this, when I saw her. I love her expression. It's so sad and still so innocent. She is beautiful.

I'm at once riveted and horrified. This photograph speaks with silence. The emotion that emanates from this piece is powerful - heartstopping.
