one, two, threeLying on the top of my car in the
middle of nowhere, counting each
individual star to keep from falling asleep.
thirty-two, thirty-three, thirty-four
The stars are shining bright tonight,
with not a single cloud in the sky,
making perfect star-gazing conditions
hundred fifty-two, hundred fifty-three, hundred fifty-four
While the counting helps keep me awake,
each star that I count away reminds me of how much I miss you,
with each one standing for each day that we've been apart.
seven hundred twenty-seven, seven hundred twenty-eight, seven hundred twenty-nine
Tomorrow is the day that I get to see you,
seven hundred and thirty days is seven hundred twenty nine and seven eights days too long to be away from you.Β Β Come tomorrow, I'll be counting stars with you.

*sigh* I loooooove love love this piece. It's so very sentimental. I tried, once, to count all the stars I could see in the night sky above me. I think I must have been bored somewhere, perhaps on my dad's porch when he lived in Kentucky maybe? I dunno. I never succeeded...my brain kept wandering frontwards and backways across my memories and I constantly got sidetracked. I like this idea, though. Nicely done!

By the way, you have "While the counting helps keep me away,"....did you maybe mean to put awake??? just a sidenote.
