Description Rokurokubi (轆轤首): Rokurokubi is one of the well-known yokai, especially from many stories in Edo period. There has two types of Rokurokubi; Nukekubi (抜け首) - the one with detached head and Rokurokubi - the one with stretched neck. Mostly, Rokurokubi are seen as female. Some also believe that Rokurokubi are originally human but due to evil deeds or the karma from their family, they transform to a yokai as punishment. On day, they are human but at night, they become a yokai and go to find food which is lamp oil. Unlike Nukekubi who drink human blood.

One of the famous stories, based on Jippensha Ikku's (十返舎 一九 - Japanese writer in Edo period) Rekkoku Kaidan Kikigaki Zoushi (列国怪談聞書帖) is written about karma of Kaishin, a monk from Enshuu who eloped with a young girl, called Oyotsu. However, one day Oyotsu collapsed from an unknown illness which made them run out of money. Instead of helping her as promise, Kaishin decided to murder her to solve the financial problem. Afterwards, he met the inn's daughter who was beautiful and slept with her. That night he accidentally woke up and saw the inn's daughter neck stretched out and her face slowly turned to that of the vengeful Oyotsu. The next day, he felt regret for his crime and decided to confessed to the innkeeper that he had killed his woman. The innkeeper didn't surprise but also told him his secret that he had killed his wife for money to build this inn as well. And the karma of his crime was now, his only daughter had turned to be a Rokurokubi. After Kaishin had listened to the innkeeper's story, he returned to his temple and built a grave for Oyotsu. He prayed for her to go in peace every day and told the story generation to generation.

Oh watching ghost stories from japan tv series was real scary, also rattle rattle, hikomori 3dcg, and teke was scary too. There was an episode about the Rokurokubi except it dealt with a heavy theme (suicide) it ended badly to say the least. Fatal Frame has some pretty cool ghosts too!

Ohhh! You watched so many Japanese horror movies. I know some but not as much as you. Mostly, I read occult stories instead of watching XD
I know Teke Teke. It's totally creepy; upper part of the body chasing the victims (T.T)...Really scary...
Fatal Frame...Is it game?? I think I heard about it before.

Ehe, not so much as I don't really like to watch horror movies much because (my older sister says this reason is stupid) I don't like watching people getting killed. But! Mythological horror movies are pretty cool if they have a lot of source material to go off of (like japan, tons and tons of yokai and theres almost not chance of fighting back). There is one youtuber I watch, GamerGirlGab or GG-Gab, heres a list of what she currently has ( www.youtube.com/user/GirlGamer… ). A few of my favorite let's plays from her is Shin Hayarigami 1 and 2, Shikiyoku, Death Mark, and her long list of Fatal Frame Games. I mean there are horror games in america and are really creative, but content of japanese horror is something all together different than serial killers and space monsters.

Yea! The fatal frame series has at least four or five (im probably wrong if theres more than that 1+) games usually dealing around a sick ritual performed on young children having to stave off an evil. The ritual of course does not goes as planned the whole place is shrouded in eternal darkness with the souls of the villagers damned and constantly attacking any living being that ends up trapped in their village/ forest/ manor. The most recent one has to do with a religion based around the body returning to the water on the mountain. To say the least, the main Bride chosen to suffer to keep the Hell Gate closed failed as all the death she had seen from the people who came to the mountain to live out their final moments in the presence of the Brides (I forgot what they're actually called). Thus the moutain became cursed and all who enter will be tempted into death as the spirits constantly repeat their deaths and if they see it they will commit the same act of suicide as they. Also, there are cool urban legend ghosts in there too like 8-feet tall woman who is mainly taunting you sometimes in the forest saying "you wont escape" with a biiig eerie grin. She also attacks later on too as the extension of the ghosts range from the mountain comes the protagonists coffee/ cafe/ tea shop + home. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yw38L… )

The Rokurokubi is pretty scary but awesome! I loved the story too! And I love the little detail of the jumping goldfish in the bowl she's holding.

It's always so cool to read about the different monsters and mythological creatures from every culture! Just like Davicu mentioned, I was also so afraid of vampires when I was a kid and learned about the strigoi when I discovered Bram Stoker's Dracula (my ultimate boogeyman... OMG... xDD). Demons and monsters in general, even to this day they still care me... and yet at the same time I've always been so attracted to stories about them. ;v;

Thank you very much, my friend! XD
I see. I also read Bram Stoker's Dracula since I was in elementary grade 6 I'm always into scary story since kid and enjoy re-telling other people to scare them. (Evil me) Anyway, I still have at least 4 uncompleted yokai sketches. Will finish them and post them in these few weeks. Please enjoy!

Davicu [2018-04-25 23:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes very scary, these stories kinda remind me when I was a kid, and one of my best friends also knew a lot of stories about all kind of monsters and creatures.
Thats when I first heard about strigoi, and I was super scared, but yet again when I was little I use to be scared of black cats, until by some miracle I got one. Then I realise that blacks cats are not evil and they don't come from hell.
Can't wait for the next story!
This one was very interesting my friend.
And the artwork its great too! ^^

Actually, this story isn't scary but the pic...Even I who drew this, feel a bit scary when seeing this at night XD I think I'll collect all of these stories and pics, then tell the stories to others at night with candle lights... That would be fun (>v<) (Sorry, I'm such an evil person.)

Strigoi is an interesting occult creature. I had searched it once after you told me about it last time. It's really similar to vampires and Chinese Jiangshi.

Anyway, I'm so glad that you like spooky story. The next yokai will be posted soon.

Ooooh unsettling~~~ But I love it! Interesting story too! Also I just love the little fish; is there particular significance hidden in the bowl and fish? Or just for pretty?
Also I still am so in love with how you do fabrics. _ They always look so lush and cozy!
