Looks like a cartridge start. I have done the end of runway inspections on the US B57 versions. Boy did they howl/growl. At idle they would rattle your insides.

I always liked those.. one had a flameout and crashed during an air show up at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage back in the 60s.. it was horrifying to watch

It had just done a low level flyby and about a quarter mile past the runway it flipped and went down in a huge ball of black smoke and fire.. it was awful

they use a large canister gunpowder to start the turbines spinning
