Another nostalgia piece as we close in on the final episode.  Just trying to capture that feeling of simple warmth that I associate with the earliest seasons of the show through lighting, texture, and the interactions of the characters.

I'll never fully get over the loss of the Tree Library...  It was by far my favorite set of the show, both from the fun design and what it said about Twilight by choosing it for her living space.  (I did have to double check that it did in fact have a fireplace... it seems like a hazard to have inside a living tree filled with paper books, but I suppose no more so than having one inside a log cabin.  Not sure where the stone ends and the wood begins with the show's design, however.)

If there's a hindsight lesson that I'd hope they would take with them into the next generation of the show, it'd be that they shouldn't be in a hurry to go big and modern with the world...  There's so much charm in  the simple town of the early seasons, where much of the Equestria was yet to be mapped out and Ponyville had more of a medieval hamlet feel than a modern town.

And if they must give the lead character a palace, make sure that it has character and a lot of life in it.  The big, hollow castle they gave Twilight never fit her as well as the quaint little nook of a library that she started in.

After being told to do so numerous times, I have finally set up a tip jar at Ko-Fi :  ko-fi.com/harwicksart
If you're feeling generous and would like to encourage me, feel free to drop me a small amount... it would be most appreciated!

What a memory you created!  To see Twilight and Spike as how they looked back in the very beginning: no wings, no big schools, just the two of them, together with their friends.

You drew a very touching scene: Twilight reading a book by the cozy, warm fire, holding her little dragon as he slumbers in her caring hooves.

The lighting and colors are very lovely.  I love the glow of the fire and how it graces everything, how the shadows give a purple shade that varies in deepness.  The details and texture are splendid!  That cup of cocoa looks so appetizing and the book looks like it'd be a fascinating read!

The Golden Oaks Library was a special place.  Twilight and Spike both felt the pain of their loss.  It was where they started, and even though they moved on, it'll always be their first home in Ponyville.

You really nailed the lighting in your work here; twilight's half-lidded eyes really sell this as a tranquil moment of reflection

Reminds me of Skutchi 's comic from years ago...

Haha, wow, I just realized I've never updated my desktop.  The library was my favorite set too

Really love your art. It really captures a warm, pleasant feeling. You feel as relaxed and at peace as Twilight and Spike there.

I'm going to go out and say it, it amazes me how long you've been in this fandom harwicks, not just how long you've been here, but the fact that you still produce stuff for it. It's so telling.

I would agree with your assessment  in regards to the big and empty castle, but in playing the devil's advocate, they did also address that in a whole episode dedicated to Twi' missing the Tree and purposefully avoiding going back to the castle. To me, that was a nice and touching way to wrap up that loose end.

But like you, I also miss the coziness of the Library. This piece is one of the many fantasies I have running in my mind of cozy places I would live in (more to do with the fireplace lit on a cold night, settled in with supplies and entertainment for a long while), minus the MLP setting (but that don't hurt neither )

I love this; the real sense of warmth and atmosphere you've captured here. It just looks like such a comfortable, soothing environment... and then, the gentleness of Twilight's expression; the way the light picks out the highlights in her mane; Spike asleep in her arms there... it feels like such a real, genuine moment, captured utterly perfectly.

Great work, as always!

I do miss that medieval hamlet feel.

A lot of people sorta don't understand the point of view of fans that loved season 1.
It'd be like if you were reading Sherlock Holmes, then by midway or the second book it becomes the greatest comedy ever written instead.

Then you'd get some of the fans saying they miss when it was a detective novel.

-But immediately you get someone responding "you saying the later books are bad?! It's the best comedy ever!"

No, we just miss what got us hooked in the first place and thought the series would continue with that theme.

I miss the theme portrayed in this picture.

That’s a good point...  “Different” isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but even so something has been lost regardless of whether something of equal value has been gained in return.  You can still feel for the absence of what has changed without hating on the new.
