Almost all of the horses Hathien had brought to the Winter Wonderland Western Show were showing for their very first time, but this was the horse she was most worried about.

Daisy was a great horse. Fantastic build, great speed and agility, but in her brain was a little horsey voice telling her that everything was out to eat her. She spooked like no other, and it was during one of these spooks that Hathien realized poll bending would be the perfect event for Daisy to compete in. Watching her get down on her hocks and turn during a spook was the same movement she needed to weave in and out of polls. So, with a lot of training, and some frustration on both parties' sides, Hathien got the Dude daughter in show-shape.

Upon arrival to the Hickory Ridge stable grounds Daisy's eyes were saucer-wide from the second she scurried off of the trailer. She had found some solace in having Adela in a stall next to her, although Adela didn't seem too keen on the company and kept nipping at the poor spotted mare.

Hathien did her best to keep her calm and happy, but there were a few incidents where Crazy Daisy lived up to her nickname and tried to climb her way out of her stall, or shot sideways on the lead at the sound of a breeze tickling her ear.

Now, it was time to show, and luckily Daisy was behaving herself fairly well. She had her moments, but it was to be expected, especially for her first show experience. Hathien stroked her fine forelock and watched her bugging eyes zoom from scene to scene.

"Alright, girl, it's time to get ready. Do you think you can pull yourself together long enough for a clean round?" Hathien asked as she continued to rub her poll.

The mare responded with a quick glance at her owner, and then her eyes were back to scanning for threats.

"Well, let's do it then." Hathien said, and began to tack up the spotted nutcase.

Well, here's to hoping Daisy will get over her fears and do well in the pole bending class!
