Description
Type: Dinosaur.
Diet Herbivore.
From: Las Cinco Muertas.
Population: Over 150 and rising.
The edmontosaurus was a large herbivorous hadrosaur from the Late Cretaceous in North America. It was one of the most prominent animals of its environment, forming herds to protect themselves from predators especially Tyrannosaurus rex. Like most of the dinosaurs they became extinct by the end of the Cretaceous Period.
Ingen recreated this species on Isla Sorna, they were meant to be in Jurassic Park at a later date, but due to the events of Hurricane Clarrisa they and the other dinosaurs were escaped into the wild. Originally there were four individual edmontosaurs in total though they were luckily able to reproduce but, their odds for survival were not in their favor due competition from other herbivores and especially predation by newer predators. This species seemed doomed to extinction once more until the intervention Marasni Corp.
At this time Jurassic World was in it's construction phase and in order to save some money on genetic research several species were taken from Sorna to be used for the park which included the remaining edmontosaurs. These individuals were to be housed in the later named Gallimimus Valley to be used as surrogate mothers for a new generation of edmonsaurs. The orignal version had somewhat slim bodies with green/yellow skin and dark brown stripes while the newer generations had bulkier bodies and implanted genes for more vibrant colors. The males were especially colorful with their bright blue heads, they even have fleshy crest similar to a rooster which was actually a trait of a different prehistoric subspecies. When the park opened its doors they ended being one of the most noteworthy dinosaurs in the valley besides the herds of galliminus. They lived peaceful lives until the Indominus rex's rampage.
In the aftermath the rest of the dinosaurs were free to roam Isla Nublar but, for the edmontosaurus the odds of survival were once again stacked against them. With a smaller space and the numerous carnivores have made edmontosaurs lives very difficult and though the adults' massive bulk keeps most hunters away the young were easy pickings. On top of that the once dormant volcano was showing signs of eruption and thus they were once again on the brink of extinction until another group of humans intervened.
With the intervention of the M.I.P with the help Claire Dearing's D.P.G, they were able to secure many of the dinosaurs and transport them to Monster Island. Once their the edmontosaurs were thoroughly examined and preped before eventually geing released into the wild. Now on Monster Island the edmontosaurs are in in much better situation. They were originally released in more remote parts near secluded valleys where they began using them a nesting sites so their eggs and young can develop safely. From that point onward they started to branch out, with some groups would herd with other species and others forming large, tight knit family herds with particularly irritable attitudes. These new survival strategies and enabling to survive in this brave new world. Today the edmontosaurus are thriving and have a steadily growing population.
