So, yes. I saw Kubo and The Two Strings. Needless to say, I loved it.
Yeah, I know the plot can be pretty predictable (minus one bit at the end I kind of didn't expect), but the heart is there, the characters are quite lovable (even the villains - the villains are freaky in a good way), and the animation. Dear God, the animation...
Did you know Kubo and everyone in it is stop-motion?
Considering who made it (Laika), yep. This one's a stop motion movie. I think only the backgrounds were CG. The figures themselves however, were stop-motion.
So yes, essentially, a little boy with a shamisen, a monkey and a samurai beetle were really fighting a red skeleton, eyes, and freaky sisters in a studio. XD
I highly recommend it.

I just wanted to try a new style, and I figured I'd test it out with Kubo here. >w> something a bit more paint-like with obvious strokes. I'm testing this style for now, but I wonder how far I can go with it.

I've seriously want more animated films that's not set in America or a predominantly white setting (unless its set in modern times wit a racially diverse cast). Sometimes I feel inspired to write things like that and put it on screen.

Indeed! I'd love to write things like that, but I suck on making a good plot. Plus, there some ideas that are better off as a tv series or a RPG game (I have a huge cast diverse female characters that aren't super sexualized, but it depends on the girl's personality on the outfits). Make a legitimate feminist cast of female and male characters.

True. Whenever I do ideas, though I focus more on males because they get as much shit from society as females (I really hate it when people think women are the only ones with problems - it's fucking annoying). Eh, I prefer the term "equalist" rather than "feminist" because people don't bother to differentiate it from the extremist femishits, and I'm for equality of almost everything, not just gender.

True. I was also including a trans woman and the main female character's older brother is a trans man that raised her since she was a child. Maybe like a bisexual and a lesbian character that are in a romantic relationship. While there's another lesbian that's not in a relationship with anyone, because she prefers a specific type of personality from a girl. Not just automatically attracted to every girl she sees, but the fandom would ignore that and ship her with some random girl over eye candy like most popular f/f ships that aren't canon and put together for the sake of getting them out of 'yucky boring sexist het ships'. This is according to most of Tumblr.

How is it that many people (myself included) thought the animated Titanic movie having a rapping dog was stupid and very out of place, yet this film set in Ancient Japan has a song from a British rock band made in 1968 and everyone loves it?

Maybe because with this song that Regina Spektor covered, at least they made an effort to make the song sound like it could be from that era? Since you can hear a shamisen there. While with the rapping dog, it was just so highly out d place.

That sounds rather interesting and hilarious at the same time. XD A samurai beetle. That sounds awesome! I hate real beetles and hate all or most insects, but a samurai beetle has me sold. Maybe some day I'll look that up and see it too.

That background gives me the impression that at any moment, Amaterasu could cast Bloom and create more cherry blossom petals. Since Kubo can already manipulate leaves, it wouldn't surprise me if he did something similar with flower petals. Both characters using their abilities together would be quite a lovely sight. That needs to be a thing.

Heck, even Amaterasu's son Chibiterasu would make for a good crossover character with Kubo and the Two Strings. He carries his comrades upon his back during the entirety of his journey, a match-up with Kubo would be a truly formidable team. What's more, Amaterasu does display a love for music and a fondness for children as shown in Okami's gameplay. All Kubo would have to do is play his shamisen and she'd gravitate to him instantly. I also think a union between Raiden and Yami would be fascinating to explore, both having originated from the moon. ^^ (I'd love to build a story to support this idea, but currently in my free time I'm in the middle of an Okami x Journey crossover that still needs polishing.)
