I haven't played the later games, so I don't know how the mechanics work, but the Saturn version included NO instructions and everything was so time sensitive it was next to impossible to figure out how to kill the bosses. Plus controlling your movement was a nightmare. o-o *pun not intended* I never killed the second boss, and I only got the first one by magic once or twice. So maybe the later game was similar and you're used to it, but I would imagine they vastly improved the game mechanics in the later games, so be ready for a steep learning curve. Granted, I was also playing the games when I was a pre-teen or younger, so controlling everything was harder, but I remember that being a frustrating game for much of the family.

Journey of Dreams (I believe the only sequel) suffers from a lot of the same problems that you mentioned. Like the confusing boss fights that have instructions, but really unhelpful instructions that tell you what to do, but never how to go about doing it. But, after the frustration of figuring out the bosses initially, I thought they were all pretty fun to play.
The game in general is really fun and fast paced once you figure everything out.
I had no problem with the controls in JOD; though I imagine trying to play NiGHTS with a Saturn 3D Controller is as bizarre as it looks... Anyway, I'm pretty prepared for that learning curve, if it's anything like the one in JOD

I would have preferred the game to be slower and more exploration based with and explanation of the plot, but the graphics were gorgeous and the detail on the worlds was excellent. It'll be a fun play since for you the newer game was similar though, though you might have to look up the logic behind what in the hell is up with the bosses lol.
Looping mechanics with a joystick is an absolute pleasure ._.

i would agree, but Journey of Dreams attempted both of those things and it was really unsuccessful. There were exploration based platforming segments, where you play as the human kids, that were just awful. (Exploration while playing as Nights would be much more fun) And the plot was okay, but the majority of the cutscenes were unnecessary and felt like filler. Maybe if SonicTeam could find a balance of the two games, they could come up with a great third sequel!
I actually have been looking up strategies to fight the bosses for this one. Normally, I don't like to look up guides, but I think nights might have to be an exception!
