this is a collaboration between and myself. She made the fractal: :thumb174995908: and I vectored it.
It's more or less what I saw in it as I was vectoring, actually. 
Anyways, this is 100% vector - five colors (thought the greenish color is barely used, so it's almost four colors). It's almost completely done with the pen tool, with a gradient mesh background to add a bit of extra color. Created in Illustrator CS4.

Wow. This is just incredible. I love it is easy to tell that it is a collab, and yet, your take on it is FAR more than just a copy: a unique interpretation that brings out different details and ideas than the original.
