Description My homage to London's Camden Town, which I love for it's cultural diversity, vibrant buzz and creativity. It's the most colourful place I have seen in London and it's very overwhelming. MTV has it's European headquarter there, and Amy Winehouse was a resident, amongst other musicians. (I hid her in the crowd, I hope you can spot and recognise her? )Β

I just entered this to the the AOI & London transport poster competition, which asked for colourful entries, reflecting one's favourite places in London. It's not my usual painting style, I thought I try out something new. Especially as my style would simply not fit the poster design they are after. I like getting out of my artistic comfort zone, at least every now and then!

Acrylic on paper, the size of a large poster.

A very good friend of mine goes to Camden quite a bit, heard so much about it. Seems like an amazing place to take the camera. Lovely work as always,

Oh, you must go!!! It's amazing! It is the creative part of London, little independent shops everywhere, and in the former horse hospital there are little stalls selling things from all over the world. The best day to visit is Sundays, when the street market is open as well.Β

I have only just been there last Sunday with a friend from Germany, who was in London for the first time. I thought I show her Camden instead of the usual crappy tourist traps like Oxford street or the utterly useless Madam Tussauds where they charge a fortune in entry fees..... We saw the bronze statue of Amy Winehouse which was set up a few weeks ago, and about 30 girls dressed up as Amy hugging the statue. Yes, it's a place to take the camera, definitely!!!! (And it's a great place to go shopping for quirky things as well.)Β

One day I will get there. I quite like things and places that are a little different from normal. Wouldn't imagine there would be places like it down here lol Β

Sounds like a much better place to go the touristy places think i'd most definitely need the camera. Though considering i've never been to London I quite fancy seeing the bridge and big ben lol god knows why but hey

You have never been to London?? Let's meet there in the New Year! It always a lot quieter in January and February before the masses of tourists turn up, I show you around.

Oh, and you shouldn't miss the British Museum either. it's probably my favourite place there, together with all the other wonderful museums. Everyone is always moaning how expensive a visit to London is, but it's not really if you consider that all these amazing museums are free of charge.Β

This is such a fun and vibrant piece. I think it really shouts out clearly your love for this area of London. It is a feast for the eyes.Β

Thank you so much!! Yes, I love this place, although I would not want to live there. It's far too exhausting. And I would spend my sparse money so easily if I was there every day, there are so many little arty shops and street vendors selling cool things. It's dangerous! Β

well, I know the feeling, but it certainly is nice having a "fun shopping vacation day" in a vibrant place like that!

Oh yes, I started this over two years ago. Of course, I did not work constantly on it, but yes, took a long time from start to finish.Β

Ha, I would have never guessed that this is your art, it's so different! But really cool, there's much to see and the colours are great. It's amazing how much love you poured into every single face...and I found Amy XD
I love the punk with the green hair and that emo-girl in pink and black in front of him. The african lady with the headscarf is also fantastic as well as the woman with green hair and yellow glasses.
Good luck for the competition

Thank you so much!!! Yes, I really enjoyed doing this.Β Β
My original idea was to create several posters with the most famous underground stations (like Oxford Street, Piccadilly, and others), and then change the look of the people and the architecture. But I started this idea 2 years ago and only just finished this one now, it would take me a lifetime to do them all! I am simply to slow for something like this! Β

Wow, fantastic idea
Yeah, it would indeed take pretty long to finish them all...but at least you showed persistence in finishing this one. I think, after such a long time, I would simply abandon an unfinished painting.

This started loading (my internet is soooo slow right now) and I thought 'who do I watch who has this style?!' I was surprised to see it was you, but in a good way! I rather like this, I hope you win!

Thank you so much!! They will exhibit they best 100 entries in London, I would be over the moon if I could be amongst them. I don't think it's a winner, as it shows one specific corner of London... I have seen the winners of previous years, they all seem to be far more 'neutral'. Basically, showing just a random place and not naming it. They want to print the winning posters and put them into the underground stations, and by picking a specific station I limit my chances to win of course.

I'm guessing next to the Elvis impersonator, though the young lady waiting to get a tatoo looks like it could be her as well.

Think you should have a good chance of winning. Β Good luck!

Perhaps you'll get special recognition..?
I mean, you probably nailed that little corner of the Universe. Β If nothing else, it would be a fun item to have at that particular station. Β

No matter. Β I think it's great and that pretty much settles it. Β Well, you know, with the exception that my opinion probably doesn't really carry a whole lot of weight with the judges of this particular contest. Β Still....
You really HAVE to make the top 100. Β I insist!
