Description "Yesterday I died, tomorrow's bleeding
Fall into your sunlight
The future's open wide beyond believing
To know why hope dies
Losing what was found, a world so hollow
Suspended in a compromise
The silence of this sound is soon to follow
Somehow sundown
And finding answers
Is forgetting all of the questions we call home
Passing the graves of the unknown
This day's ending is the proof of time killing all the faith I know
Knowing that faith is all I hold...
And Ive lost who I am
And I can't understand
Why my heart is so broken
Rejecting your love
Without love gone wrong
But i know, all i know
Is that the ends beginning...
Who I am from the start
Take me home to my heart
Let me go and I will run
I will not be silenced;
all this time spent in vain
Wasted years
Wasted gain
All is lost: hope remains
And this war's not over
Theres a light, theres the sun:
Taking all the shattered ones
To the place we belong
And his love will conquer all..."

Beautiful art.

Reminds me for some reason of Rudy from The Book Thief...

Thank you; and really? If there was a scene with Rudy doing this in the Book Thief, I would be bawling.

So would I. Poor kid. I don't recall a scene like this... I think it was the emotion in the picture that reminded me of him.

Is this an OC of yours, or a character from another book/show etc? I see him being called Benjamin in some of the other comments.

Yes, he's a character of my own from a story I'm writing set in WW2; it's about a girl who's family hides a jewish boy (Benjamin), and they end up falling in love.

Just that information alone, and it sounds seriously intense. :\ How far along are you? Any hopes of publication in the near/middle future? Either way, I'll certainly buy a copy when it's out. Being an aspiring author myself, with a mostly finished manuscript, I know it can be a bit hard sometimes to know where to start...

I've written 182 pages, but I've only posted a few chapters and snippets on here: [link] . And yes, I am certainly planning on publishing it as soon as I finish.

MaiaBlackWolf In reply to HennaFaunway [2011-04-16 00:27:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow. Some of that is pretty intense. I'll definitely keep posted as to your progress... assuming you'll probably mention in a journal when you're done?

And good luck! Novels aren't a walk in the park. I would know-- I've suffered through 308 whole pages, but 182 is no less difficult, especially depending on where you are in the story. The middle is the hardest. It's where things start to drag on... but if you power through it, eventually you get that realization one day that the end is actually in sight. It's so worth it. xD

haha ya, I hope so; been working on this particular draft since this summer. But I love doing it, and my dream is for "The Paper Stars" to become a classic novel like "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Outsiders" that everyone knows and has read.

Certainly a tough aspiration to achieve, but it's not impossible. My advice is to work in as much deeper meaning as possible, and to make sure every single line has meaning; I just finished studying Lord of the Flies, and OMG, frickin' William Golding doesn't put a word in that book that doesn't have some kind of meaning to it! Annoying to analyze, I have to admit. xD (Also, his annoying habit of killing little boys ticks me off.)

I can't believe you have that many pages after... what, almost a year!? I've been writing for 4 years.

That's a very good book! Poor Simon... I cry every time. And yes, there's a lot of symbolism in mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MaiaBlackWolf In reply to HennaFaunway [2011-04-16 11:13:11 +0000 UTC]

So did I. T____T (I say did because I've only read it once; Romeo and Juliet is the one I've read more than once. Not for the romance so much as... well, everything else. xD)

Symbolism certainly makes for more eligibility. I guess another thing is to see if you can think up essay prompts for your book. If grade 9 students can be tortured with it and forced to write an essay, you're well on your way.

Eeuuugghh. Awesome book, but not very fun when over-analyzing is involved. xP I tend to find that that will ruin every book... hence trying to read them before I'm forced to for school. (Romeo and Juliet!)
