Description This is a small outcrop of rock on Howl Moor in North Yorkshire at sunset.

It'd looked full of possibilities when I'd scouted it the day before but when I returned I found it hard to find a shot I was happy with. Perhaps scouting it in the middle of a blizzard wasn't such a good idea after all.

I usually photograph at dawn on the coast - shooting at sunset inland felt quite strange & backwards, I'm used to starting with a single light grad & then adding them as I work, rather than starting with my heaviest & removing them. Hopefully it's come out ok..?

Would have been better landscape imo.

Afraid I disagree - I took a portrait version and the balance just didn't feel right to me.

Fair enough. It's just generally when I take shots like these, they look better in portrait.

I think it's the outcrop - I took some others a bit later on at a different rock that I think will look better in portrait... well, they looked better on the camera anyway, I haven't checked them on the computer yet.

that's really a beautiful shot! the light's been captured really well and the sharpness is amazing.
