Description

TRITON was the son and herald of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a god who stilled the waves with his conch-shell trumpet. He was also the god of the Tritonis, a large salt-lake in Libya. When the Argonauts found themselves stranded in the middle of the desert he helped them find passage from the lake back to the sea. Here, he poses with his quadrident ('trident' but with four prongs)

He had no wife or consort but a few children, among them the daughters Kalliste and Triteia.
