Description I found this blank this morning and thought, I have time before work, I'll fill it out and upload it when I get home.
Okay, I've braced myself for haters who don't like my choices, but please hear me out before any rage comments are made.  I am going to explain my answers to the questions.

- I have too mny favorite characters in Smash to choose from, as a loyal Nintendian I enjoy quite a lot of series that were in Smash.  Sonic, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Super Mario, Kid Icarus, Final Fantasy, Megaman, etc.  I just can't choose my favorite!  (but if I must, it's Link)
- I not only saw no reason to bring Dr Mario back, I felt he was OP in melee.  I often had the characters set to CPU fight each other, and he won too often.
- I added in Geno, who is the most wanted Mario character for Smash.  And I couldn't help but feel it would be cool if we also had Mallow in there.  So I took out Dr Mario and replaced him with Mallow.  I would have also chosen Birdo if I could remove another character, but none of the existing ones seemed like it was worth replacing them with Birdo.
- I got nothing against Toon Link, but he just feels like an exact copy of Young Link.  So I dropped him for more favorable Zelda characters that I would like in Smash.  Midna, Skull Kid, Impa, and Vaati.  I actually made a list of Zelda characters I wanted for Smash WiiU/3DS years ago and included Midna and Skull Kid on it.  And Impa and Vaati seem more likely than the other character I chose back then, Maple from the Oracle games.
- Only pokemon character I would want to drop was Jigglypuff, but the rules forbid me dropping it, so I just added Grovyle and Sivally.  I know Sceptile and Decidueye are the more popular choices, but I feel that Grovyle and Sivally are more iconic.  Grovyle played an antagonist/anti-hero role in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky and became more iconic than its evolved form because of it.  And Sivally is iconic to Sun/Moon because of the role it plays as Gladion's pokemon and as the result of Aether Foundation's experiments to combat the Ultra Beasts.
- With the 1st party games introduced in Smash 4, Animal Crossing, Wii Fit, Punch Out, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Duck Hunt, the only one I actually played that seemed possible to add another fighter from was Xenoblade Chronicles.  And Fiora made a big impact as a playable character in Project X Zone, so I thought why not add her to Smash Bros?
- I picked two newcomers for Kirby since he has a game coming up.  Francisca on the right is a character from the new game, and it's often newer titles they consider extra characters from, such is the case with Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus.  And the other one is Burning Leo, a character Kirby gets the Fire ability from, and I feel his fire power is most iconic thanks to the anime and I also notice Smash has a lot of fire users like Mario, Bowser, Charizard, Fox, Lucas, Robin, and Megaman.
- I did not want to take out Zero-Suit Samus, but I felt I had to in order to include all characters I thought were worth adding in.  So I replaced her with a Metroid character I thought looked cool, Trace from the Metroid Prime trilogy.  I know very little about Metroid and only wanted Trace cause he looks cool.  For DK characters I chose to add the obvious choices of K Rool and Dixie Kong, because everyone wants them in and that left no space for other DK characters I would wnt in like Rambi the rhino.  As for Starfox, aside from the obvious choice of Krystal, I also want in Leon Powalski because I thought he would have invisibility for a special move and the invisible thing was kinda cool in Melee.
- Mii Spellcaster.  We can make a mii of Harry Potter or Lucy Heartfilia for Smash Bros.  Need I say more?
- Not a fan of the No-Indie-Characters rule.  But since I gotta obey it, I chose Simon Belmont from Castlevania and NiGHTS for Smash Bros.  NiGHTS is a cool character who moves by floating and attacks by spinning her body around.  I honestly would have preferred NiGHTS over Bayonetta or Ryu for Smash 4 DLC and hope to see the guardian of the dream world in Smash Switch.  As for Simon Belmont, he is an awesome badass from Castlevania who fights with a whip, what else is there to say about why he should be in Smash Bros?!
- There are not a lot of 1st party characters to choose from that haven't already appeared in Smash Bros, but these are three that I really want in Smash.  Muddy Mole comes from Mole Mania, a Game Boy title that flew under the radar, but is fun nonetheless.  His moveset could consist of hurling cabbages and iron balls everywhere and digging under the stage.  Isaac from Golden Sun is another obvious choice everyone wants, but I have my own reasons for wanting him in, I think he's awesome.  And Chibi-Robo has a lot of potential as a fighter since his newest game Zip Lash has doing cool combat actions like using his cord as a whip and operating vehicles.  I feel he is more likely to be an assist trophy, and I honestly don't care as long as he gets in, but hopefully he does make the cut as a fighter.
- I said there wasn't a lot of first party characters to choose from who weren't in Smash 4 already, so I went with the first one that came to mind.  But now as I upload this, it occurs to me that I could have done the Ice Climbers, they were technically not in Smash 4, even though they were in past games.

Hey, Trace isn't a bad choice at all. He'd be unique because he's a sniper. He can crawl around on all fours in his spider-like Triskelion mode (technically three legs), and he can cloak.
