“Are you alright?” An unfamiliar voice asked.

Startled by the new voice you quickly turn around to see where the source of it was.

In the lake with you was a tan man with shimmering emerald eyes that shone brightly with the moon and chocolaty brown hair. He was honestly a breath-taking person. Wait, get back on track!

“Chica…?” The man questioned after not receiving a response. Oh man, he was Spanish too. He started to move closer.

That's when you saw it. A tail. A gleamy, scaly, golden fish tail. Seeing the shock in your eyes before it even hit your mind, The fish-man thing swam quickly to you and hastily covered your mouth to muffle any possible screaming.

“I need you to be quiet right now, princesa.” He whispered in an urgent tone, obviously not wanting to find out about him. A few moments pass before the tenseness in your body fades, causing him to release you cautiously.

“Sorry.” You finally spoke, causing the person in the water to stare at you curiously. “For scaring you, I mean.”

He bursted out in the weirdest laugh you’ve ever heard. “Fusoso~, You didn’t scare me chica, just worried me a bit there.” You raised a brow but didn’t question further. You just decided to swim back to your dock, as the man followed.

When you push yourself out of the water and onto your dock, the merman’s eyes immediately fall to your feet.

“I’m (F/n).” You state, claiming his attention again. “What’s yours?”

“I’m Antonio.” He flashes a bright smile that almost makes your cheeks pink.

“(F/n)?” You hear your mom calling from the back door. “Are you out here?”

“Yeah, I’ll be in just a minute.” You respond, causing her to close the door.

“What’s it like to have feet?” Antonio asks suddenly, throwing you off guard.

“Umm… I don’t know, great I guess.” You respond, unsure of how to answer his question.

“I bet it’s amazing!” His eyes light up. “You can run, jump, and dance.” He ends his sentence with a twirl. You let a chuckle escape you at the action to which he slightly pouts at.

“(F/n)!” Your mom calls again, this time more stern.

“That’s my cue to leave, see you later!” You whisper before quickly getting up and rushing to your mother. Antonio hears the woman chastising you for being all wet before the door was closed behind you and your mother. Antonio couldn’t hold back his smile for the rest of the night.

You exhale another sigh. Your parents were called on urgent business and left immediately with a rushed goodbye. This was mainly the only time you got to see them until Christmas. You were so wrapped up in your own thoughts, you didn’t here Antonio emerge from the water.

“What’s wrong, chica?” You squeaked a little at his sudden arrival, casing Antonio to let out a small laugh. “Scare you?”

“Yes, you jerk!” You playfully chastised before letting your smile fall once again.

“Is something wrong, princesa?” Antonio asked, concern showing clearly in his beautiful emerald eyes

“My parents just left.” You say after a pause. “This was a major amount I’ve got to spend with them all year. It’s heartbreaking to see them leave just like that.”

Antonio looked to you with an expression that told you he was listening to every single word, and it eased you into telling him the one major thought you had about the situation.

“It’s just lonely sometimes, you know?” You continued. “I live by myself, work all day and return to an empty apartment. This was refreshing to me. To see my parents at the door.” You smiled bitterly at that last comment, trying not to let rouge tears fall from your eyes.

Antonio felt his heart throb at the sight of tears threatening to leave your eyes, only to be filled with determination moments later, making up his mind then and there.

“I want to be alone right now, I’ll come visit you later, Okay?” Your voice cracked a bit as you hastily rub your now reddened (e/c) eyes. Not wanting to cry in front of Antonio, the man you’ve grown to love. You didn’t notice Antonio’s determined glance before he quickly dove back into the lake.

When you reach your bedroom, you slam the door shut behind you and immediately flop onto your comfortable bed, still trying to keep tears from spilling onto your cheeks.

Once you position yourself into a comfortable position, you think back on all the time you’ve actually spent with Antonio this summer. How he made you laugh, smile, irritated, and show him all the wonders of the “human world” all with his charming little laugh and bright smile.

After meeting him in the lake after he pulled you down, you went out to talk to him every single day after that. It was never a dull moment with the merman around. Your heart fluttered a little thinking about all the times you spent with Hispanic merman.

Your thoughts were interrupted by a bright green light emitting straight from the lake. Almost as if you were being pulled by the light, you quickly run out to the shore of the lake, shielding your eyes from the blinding light vainly with your arms. Soon, the light vanished, and you blinked to adjust to the light again. You looked around frantically to see if you could find a source of any kind to get any idea where the light came from.

In your search, you found a body washing ashore. Wait, a body?!

You sprint over and help the body to rest of shore. Upon closer inspection, you realize it’s Antonio, but with legs… and naked. You checked for a heart beat and checked his breathing. They were both normal, so you decide to drag his unconscious, naked body into your house.

After dressing him in a black t-shirt and jeans, you lay him down on the sofa, softly stroking his chocolate hair, curious as to why Antonio was now a human, and so suddenly at that. You saw his eyes flutter open softly, causing you to quickly take your hand back.

“(F/n)...?” Antonio rasped, drained from whatever he previously did, almost confused to wake up you. After a few moments of trying to recollect what just happened, Antonio quickly glanced down to where his brand new legs were. His eyes sparkled when he saw them. “(F/n), I’m human! I’m actually human!” He cheered gleefully, eyes full of mirth.

He attempted to stand and immediately toppled over, you rushing to catch him. Letting out a laugh at his attempt, causing him to pout.

After calming down you look to Antonio, curiosity brimming in your eyes. “Why’d you become human, Toni?” You questioned.

“Because I couldn’t stand you being alone.” He suddenly pulled you into a strong hug. “Because I want to be with you.” Your cheeks began to heat up. He wasn’t really… was he? “Because I love, (F/n).”

With that, Antonio pulled you into a soft, passionate kiss. You couldn’t help but kiss back, wanting to convey your feelings as well. The both of you soon part to take in air.

“I love you too, Toni.” You said, leaning your head against his toned chest. “I love you so much.”

Antonio just embraced you tightly as he gently kissed the top of your head. Rocking you back and forth soothingly. Sleep almost took both of you before you jolted up with a sound of realization.

“What is it, mi amor?” Antonio questioned curiously.

You stared at him hardly before responding: “You need to learn how to walk.”
