Description I don't believe people online anymore when they tell me that they 'don't care' about something. People wield it like a weapon. I see it too much.

I'm not impressed by the phrase, 'I don't care.'
I'm not impressed by how, when someone gets backed into a corner, they so frequently accuse the other person of 'caring', as if it's some sort of slur. It's not.
I'm not impressed by internet cynic acts. You don't look cool.

There is this prevailing sentiment that to 'care' about a thing is a grave weakness in the ~*~*oh-so-toughguy*~*~ world of the internet. I'll be frank! That's dumb.

Things don't get done in a world where people don't care. Progress is not made. The individual does not improve themselves. The vast majority of the time, seeing people pepper their speech or posts with the phrase I don't care, or realizing that the concept is the foundation of their online persona just elicits a headshake from me. It's like a litmus test for insecurity, a white flag of sorts.

It doesn't make you look like a jaded, cosmopolitan traveler of the world. It doesn't make you Clint Eastwood. It makes you look like your ability to defend your beliefs and assertions is so staggeringly weak that you've given up on it entirely.

Screw having to defend my beliefs when I can just make the other person look like a simpering dork for even caring, right? I mean, gosh, defending myself on the basis of ideas requires all this creative problem-solving and critical thinking, that's so hard when I can just hurl meaningless accusations at people that are, for some reason, accepted, even though they would be seen as absurd in any other context.

When conversations - even contentious ones - amount to two seven-year-olds standing on the playground and shouting,

"I DON'T CARE!"
"YOU DO! I DON'T CARE MORE!"
"I DON'T CARE HARDER!"

That's not a suave victory. That's sad. And all of the people who would admire you for it are sad, too.

It's okay to care about things. I usually post because I care. I go to school because I care. I run because I care, I draw because I care. Why else would I bother?

I'm secure in that. I hope that some day in the future, when the internet is so mainstreamed that the shine of acting like an old-school troll has worn off, people will realize how dumb it looks.

Don't be a sheeple. Be honest about your motives. Stand up for your ideas.

as always, stamp template can be found here .

thank you for this stamp! i am told that i am very caring, and sometimes a little too caring, because some people i meet take advantage of me caring. :c But anyway, i hate the people who just say "don't care!" to EVERYTHING. it's like they're trying to be all tough, edgy, and dark. since when was having a heart and caring a bad thing??? i get if, it's hard for them to care if they've been through bad things, or they just act like that.
but i am enthusiastic and i try to see the good in everything, so it just kind of ticks me off..

Thanks for making this stamp.

I am someone who always cares. Maybe a little too much sometimes, but ugh people who have that "I don't care" attitude towards everything seem kinda boring and annoying in my opinion?? And also like they're just trying to be edgy. Being too cynical is not very charming nor approachable, it makes people look like utter jerks. ;D

^Y'KNOW just my unpopular opinion over there. What if we lived in a world where caring is cool instead? //But I understand that some people genuinely find it hard to care because it's a defense mechanism due to being through so much shit etc. It's not their fault they're trying to cope. Or just having that sort of personality maybe.

But as aΒ caring person who wants to be emotionally supportive of everyone, and believes in the good that is in people, I sometimes feel like the more cynical people socially punish me for not beingΒ as cruel, judgementalΒ or cynical as them. As if I'mΒ somehow weak or stupid for not wanting toΒ be cold and shut everyone out. ://Β So I've sometimes felt like there's something wrong with me for having a bigΒ heart, while isn't that actually just a good thing to have?? So now I feel like saying, non-caring people piss me off because they often act like they're so much better than everyone else!! It's okay for me to be a DORK who cares and is emotionally supportive of others (at least a sad person wouldn't feel alone in my company, that's a GOOD thing) and believes in myself and other people!!

I hate that being a jerk is treated like it's cool.

This is so inspiring. Even when I end up getting hurt, I refuse to stop caring. Sure, there are times not to give a care, but to the things and people that do matter, I throw them all my love. It's the least I can do in the short time I have to live.

It's hard to care. It's hard to really give a damn because once you do the true terror of the world can over whelm you which is why most people choose not to care because it's just so hard or hurts so much. I dug that hole for myself and it's hard to get out but I'm trying.Β

Thank you. I am very sensitve; too much so, or hyper sensitive, to many.

It's just who I am, though; it's one thing that makes me, me! I'm not saying it can't be a weakness, but...

So many people don't care how they hurt others on this world. All lives, not just humans.

I will use this proudly.

Sometimes, I wonder if I am becoming a cold and uncaring person on the internet... This stamp reminds me that it's okay to care. I like this or that and I get called out by someone and I have to pretend that it doesn't mean much to me when it does... Or maybe it's the fumes of the night hour getting to me but good stamp.

To be blunt I don't get why the fuck it's become so important to be a wall of stone, so to speak, on the internet.

C'mon we're still human-beings and it should be alright to show some emotion, be it sadness or anger, of course I would care if an idiot told be shit and I'd probably defend myself with a textwall too. But really, is it bad to have feelings nowadays?

Warmie [2011-08-01 16:01:42 +0000 UTC]

Is it? Is it really okay to care? In my experience showing that I care about someone made me look like an obsessive clingy stalker. And showing that you generally care about thinks makes you look like a wuss..

Oftentimes people who say they don't care are desperately trying to get you to believe that they don't care, because they in fact care so much. George Carlin pretty much stated a simplified version of this. Great stamp.

I love this. Ironically enough, since I just made a stamp that says 'I don't care'
But you really make a good point. It's just as important to let other people care, to let yourself care. Just as much as letting yourself say that you don't.
Uh, I hope I make any sense.

Either way. Great stamp. <3

So true! "I don't care" is something primary school kids say to look tough. Nobody's buying it. Being tough and strong is about standing up for what you care about, no matter what. Pretending you don't care just makes you look like you're running away from your own beliefs, and since when was that cool?

The thing isn't synced properly, but it totally addresses what you're talking about.
Also, is that really a cynic? I'd consider somebody like Holden Caulfield a cynic, and he cared a lot. In fact, I'd say a cynic is someone who is highly critical. The exact opposite of apathetic.
Or were you saying cynic in the sense that those who say "I don't care" are trying to come off as cynics?

Okay! Then I agree whole-heartedly. (: It's exactly like "I don't care, but I think you should think my way anyway, but not that I care. Did I mention how unconcerned with this I am? But seriously, I'm right. Even though I don't care, the only reason I offered my opinion is as a favor to you, because I'm just that swell of a guy."

I love the line, "I have nothing personally invested in my own opinions, okay?
I'm just inviting you to join me in the bandwagon of my own uncertainty?"

Pretty stamp; the yellow makes for kind of a warm glow! A really nice change when there's so many aggressive ones.

I am not impressed by cynics, anywhere. Don't get me wrong - I don't have an opinion on every issue out there, due to lack of information or space. But I'm easily moved, and I care about my choices of path with the fervor of a child. I have to stop myself from caring too much when it wears me out.

I care about how people treat each other, and about things like finding your place in society and contributing to it. I think everyone has the power to affect other people, one way or another, and a responsibility to use it right. (This can be as simple as finding a way to support yourself and make life easier for those closest to you.)
I may be a happy amateur, but I want a reason to make and share every piece of art. It's communication to me, and why communicate if you don't have anything to say?

It's like a litmus test for insecurity, a white flag of sorts.
I think this is what gets up my nose. When "I don't care" is used as an excuse to avoid standing for something, when you DO have an opinion and just don't want to risk losing face.

I recently sort of left this place because of that whole attitude of people pretending they're so badass and indifferent, and because this place in general was getting on my nerves. Coming back, this was the first thing in my ten thousand or so built up notifications that caught my attention, because it's so fucking true. There are people I have meant or spoken to that DO sometimes seem to genuinely not care, but that's rare. Anyway, this message here is just...awesome, and it makes me happy to see that there are some reasonable people on here.

Also, the stamp itself is beautiful. I love how the words "care" are outlined in gold. The blue also seems to fit with the gold and white really well -- it's almost heavenly! I know shit about stamps, but I'm just giving my opinion on how much I like it.

However, I might be a hypocrite for that, because I've said a few times that I didn't care about a huge project about politics I had to do for school, although that was only a fit of rage in which I said what I didn't really mean. It was long and arduous, but was kind of fun to do at parts, even if doing that project made me lose what I had left of hope in my country's politics x_x'

Kids think being indifferent is all sorts of cool but they're just ignorant of how the world works. Saying "I don't care" makes them look cool in their own mind.

If you really didn't care, you wouldn't have commented at all.
