Description
This is a coloured pencil work on coloured pastel paper. It was done as part of a week-long block course called The Completed Figure by tutor Roger Key at The Learning Connexion. For the first couple of days we did life drawing. For the rest of the course, we had to use those life drawings to create finished works. I chose to draw a picture inspired by folk stories I read as a kid in a book called Devils & Demons. I don't think this image is related to any particular story I read, but the idea of trouble-making demons is a common one. After I had finished it, a fellow student told me that a picture of a young woman with a broken pit is a symbol for lost virginity - interesting! I hadn't even thought of that. Coupled with the naked little demons, and the whole thing seems a little disturbing.
