Description I have come to terms with the fact that ever few years I will be compelled to draw turtles, whether it be because new series is out or because of a new movie ..it is the one fandom I will never escape. I'm sure you can tell which two turtles are my fave XD

Turtle Trainwreck 2k14 is in full swing and I have no regrets!!! *sobbing quietly in the corner*

Thank you. SAINW Leo and City Fall Leo give me strength.  I know some people think City Fall could have been darker but I think that for the tone of the rest of the comic book it did great..plus just seeing Leo in Foot Clan gear was worth it XD

So. Very. Worth It. They did his messed up mentality perfectly in that.

They did! I really enjoy the spiritual aspects of the series in general ...They definitely left his spirit  more than a little broken that's for sure. Not only that but things like seeing him deny his father/master hurt so good.

Oh my gosh, I loved the inner struggle he was going through; follow his mothers words or the shredders! The spiritual aspects were the best part because it effected everyone in his family in different ways. Heart Pain was so worth it for this story arch.

Yes it was, the whole series is great and I'm loving every new chapter and the new take on the tmnt universe. There are so many incarnations out there and I love pretty much all of them haha...tho I confess to never reading much of the Archie comics > ->;;; I was being a little turd about them back in the day because I was all about the original series and its darker tones....stupid teenage rebellion.

I'm with you on that one; that's one of the reasons I seriously dislike the 1980's cartoons. I thought think, though, even though I haven't read the Archie Ninja Turtles yet, they do look interesting. I'm a major ninja turtle fan and will research their comic book story lines obsessively and although the Archie turtles can be silly, they actually did put in some darker tones I haven't seen in other ninja turtles comics as of yet. Because of that I'm trying to put forth the money for the series.

hierophant In reply to DaMushroom [2014-09-05 02:39:19 +0000 UTC]

As a kid I loved the 1980s cartoon, it was a whole lot of silly nonsense, and so different from the source material that when I decided to read the original comic my mind just exploded in the best of ways. So the 1980s cartoon series and the old movies are pretty much Nostalgia material for me, though I do not defend their flaws and  pretty much have taken to using them as examples when people whine to me about the newest movie. I will admit it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece but it was no worse than its predecessors and it had its moments. Plus whispering " No...OPTIMUS PRIME! Stahp.." every time the Shredder showed up was fun... Mikey's comment about his shell getting tight tho...that killed whatever childhood memories of them that still remained within me. XD

So yeah, I dismissed the Archie comic completely but > > you're convincing me to take a second look, maybe..like I said I just got stuck on the original and everything after it was compared against it and it's glaring PG-ness XD I'll never get over seeing the turtles deliver finishing blows after growing up thinking of them as cute, pizza loving rascals! Which is why I enjoyed the 2003 series, I mean they still toned it down A LOT but XD we got to see Leo behead Shredder! (sure it was just an exo suit) but in my dark little soul I cheered with joy at the huge nod towards the original comic. It had been so long since I read it too, so I even forgot about them killing the triceraton gladiators, specially Donny's side of the fight where he strikes his opponent hard enough to break his staff then uses the jagged piece he's still holding to deliver the finishing blow. * weeps with joy*

DaMushroom In reply to hierophant [2014-09-06 16:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the 2003 series was great!....until those last two seasons; they were the weakest plot wise from that series. That and they made the Shredder an alien. I'm not the biggest fan of that decision-he's scarier as a human than an utrom, but that's just me. I think that in some cases they toned it down too much in the case of absolutely no blood, more directed towards when Karai stabbed Leo on the Shredders ship-that scene could have used something to make it as believable as the stabbing made it sound. All in all, I grew up to that series and absolutely love it still. And I'm with you on seeing the turtles actually get in some finishing blows.

I don't mind the Live Action ninja turtle movies, because you could see real effort going into them to make them fun for kids and older audiences. They're fun to watch from time to time.

Like I said, the Archie Ninja Turtles are still kind of goofy, but they did make Mikey get caught up in an explosion, go temporarily blind, and get captures and partially dissected by a crazed scientist. And that's just what happens to Mikey.

hierophant In reply to DaMushroom [2014-09-12 04:34:58 +0000 UTC]

The last two seasons made me weep internally, as did the "no blood" issue....but they got away with quite a few things for being a Saturday morning cartoon show. The whole Utrom Shredder ordeal was not my favorite move, but at the same time...I would have not gotten Shredder beheading if he wasn't so I'm torn on the issue...haha Shredder decapitations are important to me as a Leo fan. All in all great series, had it downfalls but it also brought some neat things to the table while paying homage to the comic.

Yeah I'm not dissing the live action movies, they were great and I loved them as a kid (and still do). But they were also far from perfect and tanked with the critics just like this new one. I am not trying to pile on undue praises on the new movie because it was far from perfect, but you get what i'm getting at, right? XD *still laughing at the 'mastered ninjitsu from a book i found in the sewers" thing.*

Didn't Raph also get caught in an explosion? In the Mirage comic run I think and like was all disfigured and shit til they fixed him with Utom science? *recalls a disfigured Raph face in black and white* XD I suppose when Raph called Mikey his best buddy he doomed him to suffer a similar fate. Friends who blow up and go temporarily blind together stay together.

DaMushroom In reply to hierophant [2014-09-14 02:35:53 +0000 UTC]

I can't recall on the whole Raph blowing up thing...I haven't been able to read all the Mirage comics yet-but that sounds interesting! The turtles have certainly gone through a lot the last thirty years-Don even got turned into a cyborg once. Those boys have been abused in more ways I can say.

The "Mastered ninjitsu from a book is laughable. It is a lazy cop out....but then there are a few of those in the movie, so that's the least of two evils X3
