Description
After a lot of work (mostly on his hair...) I drew out Riku from Kingdom Hearts 2. After drawing Hinata's face in detail I got the idea that I should draw out other characters from Kingdom Hearts. So after this I am planning on also drawing Sora and Kairi in their Kingdom Hearts 2 looks. I love how Riku's hair turned out but I notice so many other small mistakes I made *sigh*Here is the link to Hinata:Β fav.me/d98g5cx

I really love the shading you do! With hair I usually try to pick three different colors and blend them together to get that look.

Ahhh Thanks! I still have lots to learn! Wow three colors? Do you like find the color you like then a lighter and darker one? Finding the right colors to pair with the main color. When you blend, do you use a special tool?

Yeah, it's a lot of work to color lol! For Hinata's hair I use a brown, mahogany, and then a red. I do the roots brown and her hair under her neck. Then I put Mahogany over the brown and over the tips of the hair. Then I put red over all of the hair to create the highlights and blend all the colors together.
Then for Riku I use; Gray, Slate, and Light Blue.Β
The lightest one is usually the actual color of the hair but I always put it on last.
I don't use a special tool when blending, the trick for me is to make sure when I put on a new color for the hair I always go over the colors that are already there. That really helps blend them together.

Well I have been thinking about your characters with the method I told you and it's a little bit different with black hair. With Kai and Ventus' hair I only used two colors: black and gray. I used the black on the tips and roots. I started on dark on the ends and then would lighten the black until it was hardly visible (does that make sense?) The I colored gray darkly over the black then lightly in the areas where there was no black at all. Then if you really want to make the hair shine you could use an eraser to add some highlights.
Is that blending tool long and white? And pointed on both sides? If it is, that is very helpful to use as well! I mostly use that with my charcoal still life drawings. If that is the one you have I some tips on how to use that too!

Ohhh ya that does make sense! I started using gray in cloths to emphasize folds...idk why I didn't think to use it in hair! haha I'm need to try this out! So like a dark gray or light gray?(sorry to be bothering you with all these questions) cause I know I have some grays that are essentially the same as black haha Does erasing work withΒ black hair? I'veΒ never tried I can't wait to start practicing this!!

The erasing works over the gray area on the hair.Β
Yeah that blending tool is mostly used on charcoal drawings. It works great with that stuff. :3
