They really are nice. How much do you usually charge for commishs? Would love a snake or some kind of frog.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hippopottermiss In reply to PaganFireSnake [2009-04-15 22:10:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for liking them

Commissions vary a lot according to size and complexity. They can be anywhere from about sixty euros up to hundreds of euros. These salamanders would be around 350 euros but would be virtually impossible to post to the USA because of the risk to their fragile legs. Frogs & snakes are easier. My snakes are, needless to say, smiley, and they are generally tied in knots.

Do you have any pics of the snakes? I have seen some of your frogs..very cute. Would a snake or frog be around the same price?

Hippopottermiss In reply to PaganFireSnake [2009-04-20 08:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I don't have any photos of them - it's a while since I've made any.
A snake is generally less work than a frog of the same size so they tend to be cheaper but it depends on the size and how complicated the decoration is.

PaganFireSnake In reply to Hippopottermiss [2009-04-20 19:21:51 +0000 UTC]

A simple little snake would be cool...maybe one even colored after one of my own.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hippopottermiss In reply to PaganFireSnake [2009-04-23 19:32:49 +0000 UTC]

The exact colours would be too time consuming but I could do something inspired by them & you could see if you liked the result or not

PaganFireSnake In reply to Hippopottermiss [2009-04-24 22:32:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah not expecting it to be exact...but be able to make out that it's a ball python or some other specific species of snake. Of course I would like a ball python if you'd be able to do it. You can use any of my shots as reference. And any of the bp's...can be on the the normals or morphs..whatever is easier for you. If you need a specific type of shot LMK.

I can see why it is so admired. This species is so striking, and you really captured the little smile they seem to always sport. The slightly iridescent black glaze is beautiful.

Hippopottermiss In reply to Cacodaemonia [2009-03-18 07:54:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much
I'm always happy when I see one taking a stroll on a damp autumn evening You're right, they do always look like they're smiling a bit - I exaggerate it of course

Cacodaemonia In reply to Hippopottermiss [2009-03-18 17:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Sadly, I've never seen one in the wild. I used to see a lot of other newts and salamanders when I was a kid, but they seem to all be dying off.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hippopottermiss In reply to Cacodaemonia [2009-03-19 09:43:32 +0000 UTC]

They're getting rarer here too. Farmers keep draining boggy fields and people clean up damp corners of gardens and lay nice dry concrete slab floors in old damp buildings. Progress and more comfort for humans but it leaves less habitat for frogs, toads, salamanders and newts.

And in the US, at least, there's a skin fungus that is deadly to amphibians. It's been moving steadily north over the past decade or so as the climate warms, and it's taking amphibians with it.
