Pigs apparently make very good pets
They are as clever as dogs. My daughter always wanted a pig when she was little.
Bacon is fine as a name. Dennis the Menace's pig in the comic The Beano is called Rasher.

Really thats adorable, yay one of my co workers last year had like 2 pet pigs, I belive like viatmanese pot bellies. and every night when she got home they figured out how to get into the house w/o destroying anything...which is really really weird. because all she had was a doggy door *for her dogs not the pigs* and the pigs where at least like 4-5 times wider than that little doggy door

so I know they r very smart...

They are the most common ones that people have as pets. It would be fun to have a pig but I can't see me taking it off to weekend potters fairs with me like I do my dog

Can't say I've seen a lot of them roaming potters' fairs looking for pigs to abduct. It's not quite their scene - much too arty-farty

Hippopottermiss In reply to Screamdreams101 [2009-03-25 00:35:25 +0000 UTC]

Not sure what a state fair is - we don't have them here in France & we didn't in England either...

Screamdreams101 In reply to Hippopottermiss [2009-03-25 02:15:28 +0000 UTC]

oh crap, well Im in the states...if u couldnt tell. (I feel ignorant, I didnt read ur info and didnt realize where ur from.) A state fair is a fair held pretty much in the capital of a state...and farmers show there livestock and we have hay rides, and stuff.

and when u said taking my pig to the fair, I just though of STATE FAIR...and well red necks go there and they got pigs! so thats what I got... sorry if I lost u

That's OK - you had me laughing anyway

There are agricultural fairs here that are a bit like that but I don't think they'd be a very good place to sell my stuff. Here rednecks are called "paysans" and most of them aren't into spending on art. Now a nice pig yes - shut it in a shed for a while & feed it intensively then slaughter it & chop it up & put it in the freezer. I prefer mine to have a happier home than that These two are going in an exhibition all summer at a museum. The exhibition is all about rural life. Maybe ssomeone will fall in love with them & buy them

I could never kill a living being, hell, just this morning I let a cockroach outside because my class was freaking out and didnt want to touch it. If I had the money, trust me Id buy ur pigs...people have to be insane not to.

Thanks a lot
I do tend to make things smooth rather than rough, and these are made in a fine clay that looks good when I finish it properly.

BuzzyBuzz In reply to Hippopottermiss [2009-03-22 15:03:41 +0000 UTC]

No problem!
What is the clay you use, if you don't mind sharing? The clay we use at school is probably the cheap stuff, so sometimes out stuff doesn't come out right. Once we glaze it, it looks somewhat ok, but the glaze stinks. XD Not to mention how students "accidentally" break stuff when there loading/unloading the kiln.

Hippopottermiss In reply to BuzzyBuzz [2009-03-22 17:56:44 +0000 UTC]

It is a fine white earthenware. Not the easiest clay to model successfully without it warping or cracking in drying so it isn't a good beginners clay. You're right - a school probably wouldn't buy a clay like this because it is comparatively expensive as well as being not easy to model You probably only get to play with cheap glazes too. The pink glaze on my pigs is transparent and looks good on a good smooth finish but would look pretty bad on a less well finished surface because it would pick out all the bad bits that don't necessarily look that bad before glazing. It's important to do a good job on the modelling because a glaze never masks faults unless it is very thick & opaque, and then it kills the details.
