I had already doodled a Chenanisaurus (the Moroccan abelisaur, one of the latest dinosaurs known from Africa), but when I first doodled it (hodarinundu.deviantart.com/art… ), all I knew about it was that it had a very short, deep snout, perhaps even more than Carnotaurus. Thanks to I found out that the animal was found in marine sediments. Paleontologists say it was akin to finding a lion's remains while hunting for whales. But, what if it wasn´t a lion, but more like a sea dragon? All we know of it is a piece of jaw and some teeth. Considering that Majungasaurus (another african abelisaur from the late Cretaceous) had very shortened legs and an elongated body and has been suggested as being semiaquatic, why couldn´t a sea abelisaur evolve? Not necessarily Chenani, but, I dunno, think about it
Here it is in a rather quick doodle, fighting a plesiosaur over fishing rights, or maybe it wants to it him. The ornithocheirid thingies above are pretty surprised they lasted so long themselves.

Buena creatividad.

Very nice! I love the concept (I used to think Majungasaurus was semi-aquatic too, but it seems much more like a burrower than a swimmer when closely examinded).

Yes, it seems it lived at the very end of the Cretaceous, about the same time as T. rex and Triceratops roamed North America!

Well,it's incredible that the abelisaur could survive such a long time.

The pose reminds me of one early sketch of a Sando sea monster from a concept art book for Star Wars I. However, I like the idea. Like a monster otter!

Really interesting concept. Where did you find the suggestion for semi-aquatic Majungasaurus? I'd like to look into that myself.

Perhaps a spinosaur of some kind attacked it on the beach, and then ate it out at sea, leaving only the jaw?

HodariNundu In reply to AcroSauroTaurus [2017-05-09 02:23:45 +0000 UTC]

Of course, or maybe it just died and was dragged by the river to the sea or something. But this seemed cooler to me
