thank you for liking the beautiful colors, but I don't know how to make the quality of the picture any better I have a Canon PowerShot ELPH 150 IS
it was set on super vivid with -2 exposure, 5sec timer, infinity range, HD setting and the rest of the camera data at the bottom of the posting of the page.

400 ISO is maybe already a lot on a compact. On my girlfriend's bridge, noise begins to be too much important at 800.
I'm surprised for what you say on the colors, usually it's the opposite : I see more than my camera =O

You want me to give you recommendations? =O It's nice, but I can't told you more than you can find on the net ^^
What influences the more the quality of the picture is the sensor, and his size. Compact and bridge cameras have small sensor very small sensor. Certain DSLM (we call that "hybride" in french, don't know in english) have "4/3" sensors, bigger, and after you find the APS-C, traditionnally on reflex, and the famous 24x36. But you can find DSLM which are equipped with those two last sizes too.
To sum up, the bigger the sensor, the better the picture quality. Big sensors produce less noise at high ISO, are able to catch more light contrast, more colours and have a different rendering. And in fact, too much megapixels on a small sensor is rather bad for picture quality.
After, I don't know how you practice now : you shoot in automatic mode or you have manual or semi-automatic mode on your compact? Do you know the aperture and sutter speed parameters? I guess yes, because you already know the ISO ^^ On this kind of landscape photos, you could put your camera on a tripod to make a long-exposure and so be able to have less ISO.
And many people would tell you that you don't need a reflex if you don't invest really in photography. My point is : it depends, if you have enough money, buy a big-sensor camera if you want it, even if photography is not a big passion. I have the Canon EOS 1100D, the Rebel T3 in USA, it cost me 330 euros (hum don't know how it is in dollars ^^), cheaper lenses are beetwen 100 and 200 euros but good lenses coost always at least 300.
If some of my photos seem beautiful to your eyes and you have questions, I would be glad to answer you
