Description Hi,
Inside RAF Hendon you will find their once airworthy up until a fairly short while ago, Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 Trop..
Built in 1942, it was flow to Italy then onwards to North Africa where it is known to have been in combat several times..
It was recorded as lossed in German records on 11th Nov 1942..
It was discovered abandoned on the 13th Nov 1942 by Wing Commander Ken McRae Engineer Officer of the RAAF.. And so its new history began..

It was by units in Africa and then in Combat tests in the UK up till Nov 1945..
It was displayed around Britain including Horse Guards until 1954..
In 1962 the start of the first attempt to return to the air..
Displayed around Britain at various shows and displays..
Major attempt started in 1975 to restore to full display or airworthy state..
8th July 1990 Engine ran for the first time..
17th March 1991 flew!

On her last planned flight before transfer to RAF Hendon, she crash landed at Duxford!!!! 96 hours of flying over 3.5 years.. I saw her at Waddington..
Fully restored once more, plans to fly her once more again, never went ahead..

Should make it airworthy again, know a lot of people who are making new ones or wish they could work on this one, shouldnt be impossible.

I think the rarity of such an aircraft made it a no go..
It had flown in airshows for several years, I did see it at Waddington..

Excellent image mate!
Although this is often much debated and as much as I like to see these aircraft fly in some ways maybe it's better if it doesn't fly. I would hate to see it lost for good after surviving all these years.

But these things were built to fly, and that's what the deserve to do. It's their one and only purpose.

There seems to be a new policy about at the moment where they either fly new builds (WW1) for a few airshows, then into museums, the RAF Museum did this, or they fly for a season or two then stop..
Rules of course dictate a limit on how long jets can fly, WW2 its easier as parts rebuilt.
This one? Maybe yes as they are so rare..

Good shot with the B-17 in the background and congratulations on not making that room look pitch black.

I'd love to have seen Black Six fly. Oh well, I've seen AX K Spitfire and a couple of Mustangs, so let that be enough, right?

Will do. So sad about our Spitfire Mk IX AX K. They just don't have the money to have it repaired.
Is this the 109 with the real Daimler Benz engine?
