Description Into sweet decay
my mind does fall
as rain ticks off time,
I hold still.
The trees murmur
and whisper to the wind,
while the bog is silent and foreboding.
I know my feet will sink
if I try to walk on water.
Early leaves spin and dance
to the ground.
It doesn't need me,
and hypocrisy breeds like rabbits.
The world decays.

Nothing like finding a book of your own angsty teenage poetry to put you in a creative mood. I actually remember writing this one...it brings back a lot of vivid memmories of the Woods.

Anyway, onto the picture. I would like to say thank you to men's magazines for sometimes publishing artistic photos of nude women. It really helps me out when I don't have a model. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out but any constructive criticism is welcome as I am more than willing to make it better.

this is a resubmission of my last deviation. I've altered the background so that it is no longer a bunch of messy scribbles. I scanned the picture in darker but it still doesn't look as good as it does in real life. Thank you for all of the constructive criticism.

Wonderful - I love her pose and I am baffled by the way she is sculpted by both, the lines and the shadows each time I look at it.

Wonderful, I think it will be fantastic in acrylic or oil. Keep the original photo as a model, for the light and shadow; it will give a feeling of realism to the artwork!
I am looking forward...

I love this! I really like the style, the thick outline of her body is a really cool touch. There are so many little things I like about this, the hands, feet, simple background, details in the hair, etc... And her face. I could go on. Anyway, nice work.

Gmorning.

I do like the piece (I'm also a sucker for elves, lol), but I do have a couple constructive criticisms...

The cheek on the left is higher than the cheek on the right. Her eyes are also a bit large (though they're often drawn that way on elves, so that might just be your reference). Something is bothering me about her body proportions, but that's probably just because of the position she's in, which must not have been easy to draw! She does have nice feet though (what you can see of the tendons really makes them look real), and the details in her hair are fantastic. Keep drawing!

Gnite.

being an elf . . .
it's automatic for me . . .
i love her thin, strong looking arms
her forward push position
and her button of a nose.
something strange and sad
in her eyes . . . her pursed mouth
makes the effort look concerted
almost, determined.

Cousineau [2004-05-06 18:15:53 +0000 UTC]

Maybe use software to crank up the contrast? Like this. You can clear it up well without losing any detail. It's better to scan with normal lightness and contrast, then use software to enhance it later. If you have a good graphics program you can do other neat things, like read the words on the other side of a piece of paper you scanned, or enhance the indents so that you can see what was written on the paper on top of the one you're looking at.

honeylocust In reply to Cousineau [2004-05-06 19:41:26 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty happy with the contrast now. I fiddled with it a bit before resubmitting andit just started looking really grainy and awful no matter what I did. So I left it as is.
