Description Growth, change, development. All three are vital processes. Mostly good processes as well. But it seems inevitable that growth goes with pain. In order to grow we need to make decisions, mistakes, accept the consequences of our actions. The good ones and the bad ones. Especially the bad ones. To experience, that falling down is crucial for learning how to walk. Let me speak with Calvin and Hobbes: “A bleeding knee builds character.” Hehe...
I tried to depict this by choosing the form of some kind of “spirit of the woods”. She looks like a child, but we don’t know about her real age. I drew her the shape of a child because that way she reminded me of characters in literature, who refuse to grow (up) i.e. Peter Pan or Oskar Matzerath . In some aspects, she reminds me of myself.
In her hands she holds a seedling. The glowing light should indicate, that she makes it grow. And she is crying (I don’t know if the resolution of the submitted image is good enough to enable you to see this.). Thus we can persume that she is undergoing the process of growth herself, due to what’s written above. So she managed to take the first step and stand up to whatever held her back in the past.
Since every piece of art reflects the mental state of the artist – one way or another – I dare to find this comforting.
Quite a long text, huh? I felt that I should try to explain certain drawings in greater detail. To lead you to a better understanding and to leave room for discussion and critique.

really interesting. and i feel its more deep than that, i mean, well if you look at the trees around her ou can figure that the lil plant is gonna grow like that, and those trees seem to be so apart, so distance, so cold, like if now that theyr are all tall you feel their not gonna list to our o be with ya cus now theyr too over the clouds and they can se you cus your tiny, thant makes me rememebr tha horrible phrase "just a kid" sounds to horrible to me, well the thing is that maby it feels bad too cus that lil teeny plant with her ise more close, but if it doesnt grows the one that surrownds her are gonna cover the sun for her, so probably she will die, so then she need to grow up, mab thats part of why that lil girl is cryng, tsk! and i know what do you say feels like tsk!

Wow, thank you for the interesting interpretation of this piece. It is very refreshing to hear somebody actually making their own sense of what one drew.

Oh I think art and illustration does improve a lot through both feedback and exchange of ideas. That's what I love about DA.

Thanks, I like that tiny birdie, too.

I really love this. It's really beautifully presented and the text to go with it is great. I can sort of relate.

your graphics are lovely -
if not a little boring and i miss the mixture of humor you're so good at mixing with your sorrorful images in this one
it is very good - the girl indeed looks sad, but i'm not sure this one "met-the-mark" my friend a bit too *i've-seen-it-a-billion-times-before*
i think
sorry - hope it's okay to say - you did ask for Advanced Critique Encouraged - and you know how much a care about you

Sure it's o.k. More than that it's crucial for my development as an artist. I just REALLY didn't feel like making someone laugh that day. The therapeutic effect of this one outruled my artistic ambitions a whee bit.

I think it's a really beautiful piece Veronika-& it's interesting to read what you wrote about it too. Her little face is filled with such pain-done so well! And I think the background looks great also!

nice illustration. i can really relate to the underlying message. i absolutely love how you did the trees and the long vertical composition. i think the grey you used for the sky sort of flattens the colors though, if you use a darker or warmer grey there would be a bit more depth and atmosphere.

Thank you. I will go back and play around with the colours a bit more. Let's see if we can get more depth into this.
